Tacloban City - June 23, 2026 - Reinforcing its commitment to collaborative governance and public safety, the Bureau of Fire Protection Regional Office 8, under the steadfast leadership of Regional Director FCSUPT ALDWIN M SALAZAR, DSC, participated in the 2026 Peace and Order Council (POC) Performance Audit conducted by the Regional Peace and Order Councilโ€“Eastern Visayas (RPOC-EV) Regional Audit Committee at Hotel Alejandro, Tacloban City.

Representing the Regional Director, FCINSP VIC LEONEL L MACASIL, Acting Chief of the Regional Operations Division, joined representatives from the DILG and fellow member agencies of the Regional Audit Committee in assessing the performance of local Peace and Order Councils, identifying best practices, and recommending strategies to further strengthen peace and order initiatives across Eastern Visayas.

Through its active participation, BFP Region 8 reaffirms its commitment to fostering inter-agency collaboration in building safer, more resilient, and secure communities.

BFP R8 Receives Courtesy Call from Retirees Association

TACLOBAN CITY โ€“ JUNE 23, 2026 โ€” The Bureau of Fire Protection Region 8, under the leadership of Regional Director, FCSUPT ALDWIN M SALAZAR, DSC, welcomed the officers of the BFP Region VIII Retirees Association, Incorporated during a courtesy call held at the BFP Regional Office 8.

The delegation was headed by FSSUPT CHARLIE GERZON (Ret.), President of the BFP Region VIII Retirees Association, Incorporated.

The visit served as an opportunity to strengthen ties between active and retired members of the Bureau, while discussing matters concerning the welfare of retired personnel and exploring avenues for continued collaboration and support.

The activity underscores the Bureau's recognition of the enduring legacy and service of its retirees, whose dedication continues to serve as a foundation for the growth and development of the organization.

BFP R8 Personnel Join PSAR Train-the-Trainer Program in Batangas

CALATAGAN, BATANGAS โ€“ JUNE 21, 2026 โ€” Two personnel from the Bureau of Fire Protection Region 8, under the leadership of Regional Director, FCSUPT ALDWIN M SALAZAR, DSC, actively participated in the Luzon Leg Capability Building Train-the-Trainer (T3) Program for Public Safety and Aquatic Rescue (PSAR), conducted from June 21โ€“25, 2026, in Calatagan, Batangas.

FO2 Francisco Pedrosa and FO2 Gerald C Gapul joined 20 candidate instructors representing various Local Government Units from Subic-Olongapo, Zambales, Aurora, La Union, the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Cavite, Laguna, and Batangas, together with representatives from the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary (PCGA), a partner organization of Philippine Lifesaving Society (PLS) Eastern Visayas.

The training aims to develop qualified PSAR instructors capable of delivering standardized aquatic rescue and lifesaving programs in their respective areas of responsibility. PSAR Version 35 is an internationally recognized surf rescue and lifeguarding program accredited by Surf Life Saving Australia (SLSA), equipping participants with advanced competencies in water safety, rescue operations, and emergency response.

BFP R8 personnel also rendered courtesy calls to FINSP CATHY ANNE D LONGEY, Municipal Fire Marshal of Calatagan Fire Station, and HON. RICO B. PUNO, Mayor of Calatagan, Batangas, to strengthen inter-agency coordination and foster professional collaboration.

The participation of BFP Region 8 in this program reflects the Bureau's continuing commitment to enhancing the capabilities of its personnel and strengthening water rescue preparedness in support of public safety and disaster response operations.

BFP REGION 8 HOLDS MONDAY FLAG RAISING CEREMONY

Tacloban City โ€“ 22 June 2026 โ€“ The Bureau of Fire Protection Region 8, led by FCSUPT ALDWIN M SALAZAR, DSC, Regional Director, together with personnel of the Tacloban City Fire Station under the leadership of FCINSP DARREN P BACLEA-AN, held the Monday Flag Raising Ceremony, reaffirming the Bureau's commitment to unity and public service.

As part of the ceremony, recognition was accorded to personnel who demonstrated exemplary performance in training and professional development. Medalya ng Papuri was awarded to FO1 David Ezekiel A Viscara for securing Top 2 in the recently concluded Fire Basic Recruit Course CL No. 2026-142 "MAGSABUWA" held at the BFP NFTI Region 10 Satellite Campus in Impasug-ong, Bukidnon.
The same award was likewise conferred to FO1 Kenneth Y Cortez and FO1 Devino B Estomago for placing Top 5 and Top 9, respectively, in the same course.

Serving as the Troop Information and Education Speaker was FSINSP TERESO T TUAZON, Acting City Fire Marshal of the Calbayog City Fire Station. He underscored the value of dedication as a fundamental driver of personal and professional growth, encouraging personnel to remain committed to their duties, pursue continuous improvement, and uphold the highest standards of integrity and service. He further emphasized that every achievement is built upon consistent effort and discipline.

In his message, FCSUPT SALAZAR commended the newly graduated Fire Officers for successfully completing the rigorous training program and expressed confidence in their readiness to contribute to the Bureau's operational and emergency response capabilities. He encouraged them to apply the knowledge, skills, and values gained from their training as they assume greater responsibilities in safeguarding lives and properties throughout Eastern Visayas.

BFP Region 8 Advances Fire Safety Advocacy Through Live Radio Interview

Tacloban City โ€“ June 19, 2026 โ€“ Bureau of Fire Protection Region 8 Regional Director FCSUPT ALDWIN M SALAZAR, DSC, joined a live media interview with Jimmy Angay-Angay of DYVL Aksyon Radyo Tacloban to discuss recent fire incidents and the agencyโ€™s ongoing fire prevention efforts.

During the interview, RD SALAZAR highlighted the most common causes of fire and emphasized the importance of the BFPโ€™s continuous fire safety campaigns, as well as the active participation of barangays, volunteers, local government units, and the community in preventing fire incidents.

He also assured the public that BFP Region 8 remains prepared at all times, with personnel, equipment, and resources ready to respond to emergencies. The Regional Director likewise reaffirmed the Bureauโ€™s commitment to expanding fire protection services, particularly in areas without existing fire stations, to ensure timely fire protection and emergency assistance for more communities across the region.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Regional Office VIII took a significant step toward enhancing the capabilities of its personnel as Regional Director FCSUPT ALDWIN M SALAZAR, DSC, paid a courtesy visit to the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Regional Office VIII in Tacloban City.

FCSUPT SALAZAR was received by TESDA Regional Director Dan M. Navarro, DPA, where discussions centered on prospective partnership programs designed to standardize and elevate BFP personnel proficiency in key competencies, including Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) training, NCIII Driving, and Automotive servicing.

The initiative is seen as a critical move toward ensuring that BFP firefighters are equipped not only with firefighting skills, but with nationally recognized qualifications that meet the demands of modern emergency response.

During the visit, FCSUPT SALAZAR was also toured around the TESDA training grounds and facilities, getting a firsthand look at the vocational programs currently offered, as well as the students actively undergoing technical training.

BFP Region VIII remains committed to building strategic partnerships that will drive professionalism, competency, and excellence across its ranks in service to the people of Eastern Visayas.

๐—ง๐—”๐—–๐—Ÿ๐—ข๐—•๐—”๐—ก ๐—–๐—œ๐—ง๐—ฌ โ€“ ๐—๐˜‚๐—ป๐—ฒ ๐Ÿญ๐Ÿด, ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฒ โ€“ Following the successful conduct of the 2nd Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED), the Bureau of Fire Protection Regional Office 8, under the leadership of Regional Director FCSUPT ALDWIN M SALAZAR, DSC, convened a post-activity meeting to assess the implementation of the exercise and identify areas for improvement in future disaster preparedness activities.

The meeting was spearheaded by Assistant Regional Director for Operations FSSUPT ELLAFIL A LIBARNES, DSC, and attended by concerned officers and personnel of BFP Regional Office 8 who actively participated in the earthquake drill and its various emergency response scenarios.

Discussions focused on the evaluation of operational procedures, response actions, communication mechanisms, evacuation processes, medical and safety support, and the overall effectiveness of the exercise. Participants likewise shared observations, best practices, and recommendations aimed at enhancing the Bureauโ€™s readiness and emergency response capabilities.

The activity underscores BFP Region 8โ€™s continuing commitment to strengthening disaster preparedness, improving operational coordination, and fostering a culture of safety, resilience, and readiness among its personnel.
