🌍💧 Punjab’s First WASH Conference 💧🌍

As per the Government of Punjab's vision of smarter, greener & sustainable Punjab and under the dynamic leadership of HUD&PHE Department & Punjab WASA, Al-Jazari Water and Sanitation Academy (AJWA), is proud to present a landmark initiative—Punjab’s First WASH Conference 2027.

This landmark initiative will bring together policymakers, experts, researchers, practitioners, development partners, and youth to exchange ideas, showcase innovations, and develop sustainable solutions for a cleaner, healthier, and climate-resilient Punjab.

Today marked the last day of the training *“Urban Flood Management & Water Utility Resilience during Monsoons.”* The sessions highlighted the critical role of Monsoon Control Rooms in ensuring efficient reporting, real-time monitoring, and inter-departmental coordination during rainfall events, enabling timely response to urban flooding and drainage challenges.

The day also included a field visit to the WASA Lahore Control Room, where Mr. Mudasser Javaid, Director Planning delivered a brief lecture on the functioning and importance of the Monsoon Control Room. Participants observed real-time monitoring systems and emergency response mechanisms used to manage monsoon operations, strengthen coordination, and support resilient urban water services.

Day 1 of the training “Urban Flood Management & Water Utility Resilience during Monsoons” brought together Assistant Directors, Deputy Directors, Assistant Engineers, Graduate Engineers, XENs and SDOs from WASAs and PHED Punjab. The sessions focused on sustainable urban development approaches for urban flood prevention and management, emphasizing proactive planning and resilient infrastructure to reduce flood risks during the monsoon season.

Participants also explored the preparedness of water supply, sewerage, and drainage systems to effectively respond to monsoon-related challenges. Special attention was given to the maintenance, operational readiness, and performance of disposal stations, highlighting strategies to ensure efficient stormwater management, minimize service disruptions, and enhance the resilience of urban water utilities during extreme weather events.

The 3rd and last day of the training “Water & Wastewater Management: Understanding Treatment Technologies, Quality Testing & Standards, Flow Measurement in Open Drainage Channel & Complete Overview of a Wastewater Disposal Station” brought together Assistant Directors, Deputy Directors, Assistant Engineers, Graduate Engineers, XENs and SDOs from WASAs and PHED Punjab. The sessions focused on flow measurement in open drainage channels, highlighting its importance for monitoring wastewater flows, improving operational efficiency, and supporting effective drainage management.

Participants also explored wastewater treatment technologies, including best practices and emerging trends in the sector. The training provided a complete overview of a wastewater disposal station, with emphasis on the operation and maintenance of pumping machinery and allied equipment, covering both preventive and reactive maintenance approaches to ensure reliable and efficient wastewater management services.

Day 2 of the training on *Water & Wastewater Management* brought together professionals from WASAs and PHED Punjab, including engineers and technical officers, for an insightful field visit to the Surface Water Treatment Plant (SWTP) of WASA Faisalabad. Participants gained practical exposure to modern water treatment operations and infrastructure.

The 10 MGD SWTP showcased advanced treatment processes addressing a major water deficit in Faisalabad. Sludge management and SCADA-based automation of the plant enhances sustainability and operational efficiency, supporting WASA’s vision for improved metering, NRW reduction, and groundwater conservation.

Day 1 of the training “Water & Wastewater Management: Understanding Treatment Technologies, Quality Testing & Standards, Flow Measurement in Open Drainage Channel & Complete Overview of a Wastewater Disposal Station” brought together Assistant Directors, Deputy Directors, Assistant Engineers, Graduate Engineers, XENs and SDOs from WASAs and PHED Punjab. The sessions highlighted the importance of potable water and its role in safeguarding public health while contributing to social and economic development. Participants were introduced to various sources of potable water and the fundamentals of water treatment technologies used to ensure safe and reliable water supply.

The training also covered surface water treatment processes and technologies, providing participants with a comprehensive understanding of modern treatment practices. A demonstration visit to the Water Treatment Plant at AJWA offered practical exposure to treatment operations. In addition, sessions emphasized the importance of wastewater quality, focusing on testing procedures, quality standards, and monitoring practices essential for protecting public health and maintaining efficient water and sanitation services.
