The Government of Punjab has enacted “The Punjab Protection of Women against Violence Act 2016” to institute an effective protection system for the rescue, protection, shelter and rehabilitation of the women facing violence. The Punjab Women Protection Authority Act 2017 entrusted the Government of Punjab for the purpose of establishment of Punjab Women Protection Authority (PWPA).
The vision of the Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif Sahiba, is that no form of violence, crime, honor killing, or domestic violence against women will be tolerated. Madam CM has made it clear that regardless of the nature of the crime, while the investigation can happen later, in cases involving crimes against women and children, an FIR must be registered immediately, and we have seen that immediate FIRs are indeed being registered.

The Punjab Police is working 24/7 to ensure justice for young girls and women. This is also a test case for the entire neighborhood, showing that no one can look at our girls with an evil eye.
If there is any case where you feel a girl is facing cruelty, harassment, or domestic violence against women, it is your responsibility to report it. Many girls remain silent, but by staying quiet... it is crucial to catch predators.
Since taking charge of the Punjab Women Protection Authority, our first case was Sania Zehra’s, and justice was served when her husband, who brutally murdered her, was sentenced to death. Throughout the year, we resolved numerous cases, and I have made it a priority to personally visit victims. The Punjab Police has been highly supportive, ensuring swift action through the 15 helpline and the Virtual Women Police Station.
Director General Punjab Women Protection Authority, Dr. Lubna Nazir, visited the Women Protection Centre Multan to review its operations and service delivery. During the visit, District Protection Officer Muniza Butt briefed the DG on the facilities and support services being provided to women at the Centre. Dr. Lubna Nazir expressed saatisfaction over the performance of the Centre and appreciated the efforts being made to ensure the protection, welfare, and empowerment of women.
