Forest Fire Preparedness and Community Awareness Session
In compliance with the directions of the Divisional Forest Officer, National Parks Division Mansehra, the Wildlife Staff of National Parks Division Mansehra, under the supervision of the Sub-Divisional Wildlife Officer (SDWO), Malkandi National Park, conducted a forest fire preparedness and community awareness session with local residents and stakeholders of adjacent areas of national park i.e. Faridabad, nuri, ghanool and mahandri.
The participants were sensitized regarding the causes, consequences, and preventive measures related to forest fires, with particular emphasis on the protection of wildlife, forests, biodiversity, natural habitats, and public assets. The community of ghanool and faridabad was briefed on fire prevention protocols, early warning mechanisms, prompt reporting procedures, and coordinated response measures to effectively cope with and combat forest fire incidents during the ongoing fire season.
The wildlife staff also highlighted the critical role of local communities in preventing fire outbreaks and encouraged active public participation in safeguarding the ecological integrity of Malkandi National Park. Awareness material and precautionary guidelines were disseminated among n participation and ensure the effective protection of natural resources within Malkandi National Park.

A fire awareness campaign was conducted by the field staff of Koh-e-Suleiman Conservancy and Sheikh Buddin National Park to educate students of various schools and local community members in Darazinda about the prevention and control of forest fires.
Moreover, firelines are being established in various fire-prone hotspot areas of Sheikh Buddin National Park to minimize the risk of wildfire spread and to enhance the protection of natural resources and wildlife habitats.

Just completed a 5-day Wildlife Baseline & Habitat Mapping Survey at Kot Manzary Baba, Dargai Range, Malakand Wildlife Division.
Proud to have led this activity from 3rd to 7th June 2026, organized jointly with Pakistan Museum of Natural History-PMNH, Zoological Survey of Pakistan-ZSP and The Department of Botany, University of Malakand.
Field days were long, wildlife sightings were limited in harsh condition and in Eucalyptus plantation areas, but every specimen collected and every staff member trained makes the effort worthwhile.
Grateful to Prof. Dr. Nassarullah Khan, Dr. Muhammad Abbas, Dr. Shabir Ali Amir, Dr. Mishkat Ullah, Dr. Hu Ali & Mr. Zaryab Khan from PMNH, ZSP and UOM, and our dedicated Range staff Fawad Shah, Ibrahim Shah & Izaz Khan for their collaboration.
What we achieved:
1. *Documented biodiversity*: 35+ bird species, Reptiles, insects & aquatic fauna
2. *Mapped habitat*: Subtropical scrub to Chir Pine forest transition zones & Eucalyptus plantations
3. *Built capacity*: Provided hands-on training to wildlife staff on trap installation, species sampling & field data collection
4. *Created baseline*: Generated critical data for future wildlife management & conservation planning in Kot area of Malakand Division

An online Khuli Kachehri was held today by the Office of the Secretary, Climate Change, Forestry, Environment & Wildlife Department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The Chief Conservator Wildlife, accompanied by the concerned Conservator Wildlife, participated and addressed issues pertaining to protection and conservation challenges.
