**Gardening Activities at Gladiolus Place**
Today's activities involve the careful thinning of Naibai seedlings, where weaker plants will be removed to ensure the strongest ones thrive. It is also crucial to support the growth of bush beans and long beans by tipping and trellising them. To promote development, fertilizer will be applied to the long beans, bush beans, and fruit trees. Additionally, a trellis will be built for the passion fruit plant to provide necessary support.
Last week, diatomaceous earth was utilized to protect against white flies and thrips, as demonstrated by the numerous flies collected in a plastic container.
Without these protective measures, the plants would suffer significant harm. Furthermore, protective nets have been set up to prevent pests from damaging the plants, and the discovery of snail droppings beneath the leaves highlights the importance of maintaining vigilance in the garden.

PolioPlus is more than one of Rotaryโs flagship programmes. It is one of the greatest public health success stories in human history.
When Rotary launched PolioPlus in 1985, polio paralysed hundreds of thousands of children every year across the world. The goal was ambitious - to eradicate a disease that had devastated families for generations.
Today, thanks to Rotary, governments, healthcare workers and global partners working together, nearly 3 billion children have been immunised against polio. Rotary alone has committed more than US$2.8 billion towards global polio eradication efforts. In 2024-25, programme awards, including PolioPlus Partners grants, totalled US$151 million. Yet the work continues until the disease is eliminated everywhere. Only two countries remain endemic to wild poliovirus.
What makes PolioPlus so remarkable is not only the scale of the programme, but the scale of the impact.
Millions of children who may otherwise have faced paralysis, lifelong disability or even death have instead grown up healthy, educated and able to fulfil their potential. Entire communities have benefited from stronger healthcare systems, better immunisation infrastructure and a global network of health workers committed to protecting future generations.
For Rotarians, PolioPlus represents what becomes possible when people unite around a shared purpose and refuse to give up.
Few programmes have demonstrated Rotary's ability to create lasting global change as powerfully as PolioPlus. It is one of the reasons Rotary is recognised and respected across the world.
The finish line is now within sight.
And until every child is protected, Rotary will continue the fight.

On June 13th, we received an invitation to the Global Wellness Day 2026 from Dr Chris Koh, an Advisor to Connexions. In his capacity, he offers strategic insights on partnerships, community engagement, and program development, working closely with corporate partners, educational institutions, government agencies, and community organizations to create impactful collaborations that improve opportunities and outcomes for neurodiverse individuals and their families.
Connexions is recognized as a leading center in Asia, focused on empowering adults aged 18 and older on the autism spectrum, especially those with higher support needs.
We had the opportunity to meet Mdm Hatmah Bin Sarkan, a senior care support associate at IMH, who has been teaching recovery patients the art of bread baking, resulting in delicious outcomes.
We plan to engage in discussions with Chris regarding potential collaboration opportunities with Connexions across various sectors.
