Strengthening mental health care for mothers and newborns 🤱🏾🧠
Health leaders and partners from Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar convened for the National Perinatal Mental Health (PMH) Inception, Alignment & Technical Harmonization Meeting to advance the integration of quality PMH services into routine maternal healthcare.
Strengthening PMH services contributes to better maternal and newborn health outcomes, advances Universal Health Coverage, and supports implementation of WHO recommendations on maternal mental health and integrated people-centred care.

A successful technical workshop convened by Zanzibar Ministry of Health, Zanzibar Health Services Fund ZHSF and WHO aligned the methodology for development and costing of the Zanzibar National Essential Health Care Intervention Package and Health Insurance Benefit Package. The Ministry of Health Zanzibar conducted a social and behavioural assessment on Acute Watery Diarrhea/Cholera to inform evidence-based RCCE interventions, with Irish Aid and WHO support.
As part of the preparation, 10 Health Promotion Coordinators and Health Officers were trained on applying behavioural insights in public health emergency response.

The Ministry of Health and WHO, together with stakeholders and partners, are conducting a national multisectoral Table-Top Simulation Exercise in Morogoro using an Virus Disease scenario to test new responder deployment guidelines and strengthen emergency readiness.
