Please say hi to Bailey !! She met with members of the Maurice Fire Department and the Abbeville Fire Department during North Vermilion Middle School Career Day. Bailey is an 8th grader at NVMS and she expressed an interest in the fire service. Bailey got to try on our bunker coat to see what it feels like to wear FD gear. Thank you Bailey for reaching out and talking to us about our departments. ๐๐ฅ

The City of Abbeville, along with Mayor White and the Council, is proud to share that the Abbeville Fire Department has earned an ๐ข๐ฆ๐ฉ๐ซ๐จ๐ฏ๐๐ ๐ซ๐๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐จ๐ ๐ from the Property Insurance Association of Louisiana (PIAL) โ up from the previous rating of 3!
The PIAL rating, which operates on a scale of 1 to 10 (with 1 being the best), assesses the fire protection capabilities of municipalities and fire districts. It takes into account critical factors like the number of firefighters and fire trucks, equipment and hydrant testing, water availability, response times, and more โ including emergency pre-plans for commercial buildings and public education efforts.

A better rating doesnโt just mean stronger fire protection โ it can also lead to lower property insurance rates for homeowners and businesses within city limits. While each insurance company makes its own decisions, in todayโs challenging insurance market in Louisiana, every improvement matters. This is a huge win for our community โ and weโre not done improving yet!

The ABBEVILLE FIRE DEPARTMENT would like to congratulate Asst. Chief Macy Broussard on his recent retirement. Chief Macy served the City of Abbeville and the Abbeville Fire Department for over 26 years. During that time, Chief Macy served as a public educator to local schools and business, grant writer for our department and training instructor. Chief Macy was a tremendous Chief, amazing motivator and mentor but even a better friend to everyone in our department. If there was one person in our department that was guaranteed to give you a laugh and a great story, it was Chief Macy !! We wish you the best health, continued success and safe travels in your future retirement endeavors!!
