📌Collection Spotlight: Vermilion Parish—Early Cattle Brands of Vermilion Parish at the Abbeville Cultural Center.🐄

Explore the artifacts, photographs, and stories that preserve the heritage of Vermilion Parish. This week, we'll feature an item from the collections of the Abbeville Cultural Center.

📍This piece comes from the year 1989 and represents the earliest cattle brands and families in the 1700s-1800s. Prior to being established in 1844 as Vermilion Parish, our region was known as the “Attakapas District”, named for the high population of the Chitmacha and Atakapas tribes present in the area.

Collection Spotlight: Vermilion Parish—Inez Catalon at Le Musée de Kaplan 📍

Explore the artifacts, photographs, and stories that preserve the heritage of Vermilion Parish. This week, we'll feature an item from the collections of Le Musée de Kaplan .

Inez Catalon was born in Kaplan, Louisiana. Inez represented the tradition of “home singing”–lullabies, ballads, historical and humorous songs–Inez preserved the French language and melodies through song. 🎶 This special piece of Inez’s history is on display at Le Musée de Kaplan.

The museum is open Wednesday-Saturday 9AM-1PM and hosts events such as the French Table, new local art exhibitions and Coffee&Music Jam. Come veiller! ☕️

Abbeville Main Street is proud to partner with local organizations throughout Vermilion Parish to bring America 250: A Patriotic Celebration to downtown Abbeville.

This special event will take participants on a journey through American history featuring patriotic storytelling and a signing of the Declaration of Independence as our nation approaches its 250th.
