This morning, three trusties residing at the Vermilion Parish Correctional Center completed the first 40-hour Substance Abuse class offered at VPCC. Through this program, led by Acadiana Intervention, participants worked through a curriculum designed to help them better understand substance abuse, recognize how it has impacted their lives, and develop the tools needed to resist temptation once released from incarceration.
VPCC’s most recent graduates of the program are Mr. Derrick Wagner, Mr. Christopher Vincent, and Mr. Randall Trahan. When asked what they learned through the classes, they shared:
“If I don’t heal myself, I won’t heal my drug problem.”
“Being on drugs is not the way to go. I’ve lost a lot, and it’s hard to get it all back, but I can get it back and be a productive member of society.”
“You can’t help others until you learn to help yourself. I’ve learned a lot in this class.”
Sheriff Eddie Langlinais, Chief Deputy Blair Dore, Warden Sammy LaPorte, and Ms. Brittany Breaux congratulated each of these men on their achievement and presented them with certificates of completion.
The Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office and Correctional Center remain committed to providing programs and opportunities that encourage rehabilitation, accountability, and positive change.
