This morning, our firefighters spent time at the training tower conducting live fire training exercises.
Training like this allows us to practice in realistic conditions, sharpen our skills, and build on the techniques we use when responding to emergencies in our community. From fire attack and hose operations to communication and teamwork, every training opportunity helps prepare us for the next call.
We train regularly because when an emergency happens, that's not the time to learn. It's the time to perform.
Thank you to all of our firefighters who continue to dedicate their time and effort to improving their skills and serving the citizens of Abbeville.

Recently, members of the Abbeville Fire Department completed hazardous materials response training as part of the departmentβs continued commitment to emergency preparedness.
The fire service is an all-hazards emergency response agency tasked not only with fighting fires, but also responding to medical emergencies and hazardous material incidents.
During this training session, firefighters focused on preparing for a potential chlorine leak scenario at at the City water plant. Louisiana State Police Hazardous Materials Troopers provided both classroom instruction and hands-on training using a specialized prop to simulate the emergency scenario.
Training opportunities like this help ensure firefighters remain prepared to respond safely and effectively when emergencies occur.

Today, members of the Abbeville Fire Department met with a team of LaDOTD engineers to continue conversations focused on communication, coordination, and emergency response within our community.
With the bridge opening an average of nearly 60 times each month, itβs important that these discussions continue so agencies can work together, plan ahead, and help ensure efficient response times for the safety of our residents.
While the bridge operations are managed at the state level, the City of Abbeville and the Abbeville Fire Department continue working closely with LaDOTD to evaluate response efforts, discuss concerns, and look for ways to improve coordination whenever possible.
The safety of our residents will always remain the priority, and the Abbeville Fire Department remains committed to doing everything possible to help keep our community safe.
