Seat belt use is required by law. It's not just a suggestion. If every person was properly restrained on every trip, thousands of additional lives could be saved each year. That's why the Brown County Sheriff's Office along with law enforcement across the nation will be cracking down on seat belt violations during an aggressive seat belt click it or ticket mobilization from Monday May 11th thru Sunday May 31st. The Brown County Sheriff's Office and the South Dakota Office of Highway Safety want to remind everyone to buckle up day or night.

In recognition of National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, the Brown County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank our dispatchers for the critical role they play in serving our community.
Day and night, they are the first point of contact in emergencies. They provide reassurance to callers, gather vital information, and ensure Deputies and first responders have what they need to respond effectively . Their ability to stay calm under pressure and make split-second decisions is essential to public safety.
We appreciate their dedication, professionalism, and commitment to the citizens of Brown County.
Thank you for everything you do, we’re lucky to have the best team of dispatchers to tell us what to do and where to go!

Current road conditions for Highway 12. The snow is coming down fast, which is making the roadways slick and visibility low. We don’t have any fancy snow gauges, but we can offer a Deputy’s energy drink for perspective of snow accumulation! In just two hours it was enough to cover the K of a kickstart.
Please slow down and drive with caution if it’s necessary for you to be out driving.
