What can a chicken teach a young person?
Quite a lot, actually! Poultry projects in 4-H teach responsibility, commitment, confidence, and leadership while giving youth hands-on experience caring for animals. Members learn valuable skills that help them succeed both inside and outside the show ring.
The poultry project is a great beginner project for the first time 4-Her or Cloverbud. Members learn about all areas of caring for an animal without the size and higher maintenance of other species. This project also comes with a bonus- a steady supply of fresh eggs that the whole family can enjoy!
Tag someone who should consider a poultry project this year!

๐ 4-H VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT: MEET MIKE! ๐
Behind every great 4-H member is a dedicated volunteer. Today, weโre spotlighting one of our amazing leaders, Mike, to share what makes his 4-H journey so meaningful!
๐ What inspired you to become a 4-H volunteer?
"As a teen, I knew how much 4-H had impacted my life through public speaking, leadership, and national trips, and I wanted to give back. Around that time, my dad, Kenneth, was looking to step back as leader of our local club, so I stepped right into the role!"
๐ What is a favorite memory or โproud momentโ with the youth?
"I have too many to name, but two really stick out. First, when former members come up to me years later just to talk about the positive impact 4-H made on their lives. Second, when Iโm judging projects at county fairs or achievement days and see a member get so passionate about a project that it ends up becoming their future career choice!"
๐ฑ How have you seen youth grow through 4-H?
"Watching younger members build confidence and dramatically improve their public speaking skills year after year is incredible. Weโve also had many older club members attend the Citizenship Washington Focus (CWF) Trip, which is always incredibly impactful for them."
โจ Describe the 4-H volunteer experience in one word:
โREWARDINGโ
๐ค What would you say to someone considering becoming a 4-H Leader?
"Take that step and volunteer! The youth of today will be our leaders of tomorrow, so any way we can positively impact them makes for a better community. There is always a role for you in a 4-H club."
Thank you, Mike, for your incredible dedication and for continuing a wonderful family legacy of leadership! ๐

The swine project teaches much more than how to raise a pig.
Through this project, youth learn responsibility, animal care, goal setting, feeding, and effective communication.
Members work year-round to provide proper food, environment, and daily care for their animals while earning animal agriculture experience. Along the way, 4-Hers develop confidence, work ethic, and leadership skill sets that will benefit them in other areas of their life.
The swine offers growth opportunities both in and out of the barn.
