It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of former Aberdeen Police Sergeant Asa Bailey, who passed away Sunday evening.

Sergeant Bailey dedicated more than three decades of his life to law enforcement and public service. He proudly served the Town of Aberdeen for 17 years, retiring from the Aberdeen Police Department in 2017. Prior to joining our department, he served with the North Myrtle Beach Police Department from 1986 until 2000.

Throughout his career, Asa was known for his commitment to serving others, his professionalism, and the pride he took in wearing the badge. While he loved his career in law enforcement, those who knew him best know that his greatest devotion was to his family.

He leaves behind his sons, siblings, numerous grandchildren, and a large extended family who were the center of his world.

We are grateful for Sergeant Bailey’s years of dedicated service to our community and the lasting impact he made on those who had the privilege of working alongside him.

Rest easy, Sergeant Bailey. Your service and legacy will not be forgotten.

Happy Father's Day to all the dads, grandfathers, stepdads, and father figures in our community!

Today we celebrate the men who teach, guide, support, and remind us what it life is all about.

Most importantly, a special Happy Father's Day to the dads of the Aberdeen Police Department who balance serving our community with being role models at home. Thank you for your dedication, sacrifice, and for everything you do both in uniform and out.👮‍♂️👨‍👦

We hope all of our fathers have a wonderful day surrounded by family, laughter, and for some, a little relaxation.

Happy Father's Day!

Fun fact: Tomorrow marks the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year. The sun will officially clock in for overtime at 4:24 a.m.

So since tomorrow is going to be a long day (pun absolutely intended), enjoy your short Saturday while you can. Get outside, have some fun, and for the love of all things sunny... behave.

We'd hate to spend part of the longest day of the year writing reports about you!

😎☀️🚔

📢 SUMMER BREAK IS HERE 📢

Moore County parents… it’s officially go time... the first day of summer break has arrived!

• The buses have stopped running.
• The alarms have been silenced.
• The fridge is full, yet kids will still declare there’s nothing to eat.
• And the phrase “what are we doing today?” has officially entered the daily rotation.

Reminder:
✅ Your grocery bill is about to double
✅ Your house will not be quiet again for the next 10 weeks
✅ “Go play outside” will be used early and often
✅ “I’m bored” will be reported within the first 24 hrs (or sooner)
✅ And hiding in the bathroom will be considered a completely reasonable survival tactic

Good luck—may your coffee be strong and your patience be stronger. If you need us, we’ll be patrolling neighborhoods… and possibly checking on anyone hiding in their car for five minutes of **peace** (We get it.) 😄

Today, a follower sent us what may be the best suggestion we've ever received:

"A police therapy capybara."

After reviewing the evidence, we're not saying it's a bad idea...

We're just saying we'd probably never get any work done.

Who wouldn't want to pet a capybara instead of answering calls? 🦫🚔😂

📌 Legacy Lakes Community Information Bulletin

Over the past two days, officers have responded to the Legacy Lakes community regarding reports of a suspicious individual wearing a backpack, walking around residential homes and potentially attempting to look through windows.

In both instances officers responded promptly, located the individual, and detained him. He has been identified, and searches of his belongings have been done. At this time, no stolen property, burglary tools, or other evidence of criminal activity has been found.

Due to the current lack of physical evidence or witnesses to a crime, charges have not been filed. However, this behavior is being taken seriously. Detailed reports have been completed, and officers have increased patrols throughout the community, which will continue through the weekend.

As of today, Legacy Lakes staff has issued a trespass notice banning this individual from entering Legacy Lakes private properties, including amenities such as the clubhouse, but does not extend to residential properties. This restriction does not apply to public roadways within the community, which remain accessible.

Residents are urged to remain alert and take an active role in community safety. If you observe any suspicious behavior, do not hesitate—contact 911 immediately so officers can respond in real time.

This bulletin is being shared to ensure residents are informed, as we are unable to post directly to the community’s page/forum. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and take appropriate action as needed.
