Our officers are rotating over an eight-week period to attend a two-day ALERRT (Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training) course, ensuring every officer receives this critical training while maintaining service to our community.

Day one focuses on reviewing and building on their existing foundation. Officers spend time in the classroom learning from both the successes and lessons of previous critical incidents. They also work through tactical walk-throughs, dynamic training scenarios, and review lifesaving first aid practices to ensure they're prepared when every second counts.

Training like this isn't about expecting the worst; it's about being ready to protect our community if the unthinkable ever occurs.

Stay tuned for photos from Day Two, where our officers train alongside the Abilene Fire Department. Training together ensures everyone is on the same page, understands each other's roles, and can work seamlessly as one team when lives are on the line.

Today, we pause to remember Officer Jimmy Spann and the sacrifice he made in service to our community.

On June 17, 1954, Officer Spann gave his life in the line of duty while pursuing a suspect who had fled to Merkel. His courage, dedication, and commitment to protecting others reflect the very best of law enforcement.

Following his death, the community rallied around his family, coming together to build a home for his wife and children, a lasting reminder of the respect, gratitude, and admiration they held for him.

More than seven decades later, Officer Spann’s service and sacrifice remain an important part of the history of the Abilene Police Department. We honor his memory, reflect on his legacy, and remember that his impact continues to live on through the community he served.

🚨 Car Burglaries Are on the Rise 🚨

In the last 90 days, the Abilene Police Department has had more than 100 vehicle burglary reports.

The good news? Many of these crimes are preventable.

Before you head inside for the night, take 30 seconds to:
πŸ”’ Lock your vehicle.
πŸ”‘ Take your keys with you.
πŸ’Ό Remove your valuables.
πŸ”« Never leave a firearm inside your vehicle.

Here's something to think about:

A firearm can't protect you from inside your parked car... but it can become a weapon in the hands of a criminal.

Every stolen gun has the potential to be used in another crime, putting more lives at risk.

Don't make your vehicle an easy target.

This community never ceases to amaze us. ❀️

A huge shoutout to these incredible young men who stopped by the Abilene Police Department to deliver several cases of water for our officers.

With the Texas heat in full swing, our officers go through a lot of water while serving our community. Wanting to help, the Cooper HS Criminal Justice program, organized a community water drive over the weekend, collecting donations for both the Abilene Police Department and Fire Department.

Acts of kindness like this remind us why we're so proud to serve this community. Your support, encouragement, and generosity never go unnoticed.

Thank you for keeping those who serve hydrated and reminding us that we truly have the best community around. πŸ’™πŸš”πŸš’
