World Refugee Day is an international day designated by the United Nations to honor refugees worldwide and recognize their courage, resilience, and contributions to the communities that host them.

The observance raises awareness about the challenges faced by people forced to flee their home countries due to conflict, persecution, or violence, and highlights the need for protection and humanitarian support.

The Taylor County Democratic Party supports organizations across the world, including the International Rescue Committee here in Abilene, that promote solidarity and understanding for displaced populations and work to provide them with a better life here in America, furthering our 500 year long history of welcoming refugees and displaced peoples and the benefits our country reaps when we do.

Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the United States, marking June 19, 1865, when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas were finally informed of their freedom under the Emancipation Proclamation.

The day honors African American history, resilience, and the ongoing struggle for equality and civil rights.

The Taylor County Democratic Party urges all Americans to take a moment to reflect on the struggles of African-Americans tin the pursuit of freedom and justice.

Please join the Equal Justice Initiative this Saturday morning, June 20, at 10 AM, as they dedicate a historical marker to Grover C. Everett, who was lynched near the corner of North 3rd and Ash in 1922.

It will serve as a somber reminder of how far we've gone, not just since the end of slavery, but even from half a century after when this occurred. If you can make it out this weekend to both the dedication and Juneteenth celebrations, we hope to see you there.

Here are the results of the war that cost American, Iranian, and other lives, cost literally hundreds of billions of our tax dollars, and further strained an already struggling American public.

US sanctions on Iran will be lifted.

The US will release $24 billion in frozen Iranian assets.

The US will withdraw its troops from areas around Iran.

The US and its allies will pay $300 billion to Iran for reconstruction

All this just to REOPEN the Strait of Hormuz, which was open before the war.

Glad to see it was all worth it.
