Abington Firefighters celebrated our annual Memorial Sunday Service yesterday surrounded by brother and sister firefighters, family, and local and state political leaders. We celebrated accomplishments and milestones from the previous year but we also recognized the loss we suffered.

During our ceremony, we recognized and celebrated the lives and service of Retired Administrative Assistant Patricia Gordon and Retired Firefighter Charlie Whitman Jr.

We also recognized 2 members that had retired after dedicating 12 years of service to the Town of Abington - Firefighters Adam Levine and Michael Kolodziej.

With their retirements, we were able to bring 2 new members into our family - Firefighters Jay Davies and Matthew DiSciullo

Local 2080 would also like to recognize our political affiliates who joined us in our day of recognition, for which we are grateful - Abington Town Manager Michael Maresco as well as the Board of Selectmen. We are also grateful for the presence of Congressman Stephen Lynch who visited and addressed our members.

📢 Special Town Election Upcoming
- Saturday May 16
- 8am - 6pm
- Beaver Brook Elementary

🚒 The video below shows Chief of Department Jack Glynn discussing the detriment of a No Vote for our Override. The effects of these cuts across our operation are multifaceted, as it could change the way we serve our community significantly in a negative manner.

These facets include but are not limited to:
🔥 Shift Coverage (resulting in insufficient manpower to staff the second ambulance)
🔥 Training opportunities across the entirety of the department
🔥 Specific training for Special Operations
🔥 Inability to provide training and education to our youth within the school systems
🔥 Annual cancer screenings for our members
🔥 Replacement of outdated and antiquated personal protective equipment to maintain efficient safety factors while operating at incidents
🔥 Delays in apparatus repair of an aging fleet

Abington Firefighters Local 2080 ask for your support at the ballot box this Saturday with a YES Vote on Question 1

Today your Abington Firefighters transported patients to Boston hospitals on multiple occasions. Transport decisions are not taken lightly by our crews because this eliminates one of our 2 ambulances from responding to emergencies within our community.

While keeping this in mind, these decisions are made based on specialized facilities (trauma centers, stroke specialties, etc) in the city or specific patient requests due to diagnosed medical ailments.

If the status of our second ambulance is jeopardized, we will have to depend on mutual aid communities for ambulances to respond for our residents' emergencies, ultimately resulting in further lost revenue as well as delayed response times.

By supporting your Firefighters and Voting YES on Question 1, you are supporting your community by maintaining the availability of this second ambulance
