It is very important to vote YES on this referendum because it gives residents in the Town of Rochester an opportunity to have a voice in future priorities and the growth of our town and to have a say in what things are important to them. It is another tool that we can use for land and resource conservation without raising taxes on our residents or without relying on some outside entity to come in and preserve a special piece of land.
We have to ask: What is the priority? What do we want to protect or access? Whether that ends up being farmland protection, protecting an aquifer, a recreation space, a special viewshed, a historic property, or creek access. It’s an amazing opportunity.

The two-year term for the Supervisor’s office has long been the default under New York State law, but state law also gives towns the authority to extend that term to four years through a local referendum. This isn’t a theoretical or untested idea. In fact, voters in Rochester already supported a similar extension for the office of the Town Clerk in recent years, recognizing that continuity in critical local government roles helps improve performance, consistency, and long-range planning. Now, we have the opportunity to apply that same logic to the Town’s highest elected executive officer—the person responsible for managing the budget, overseeing daily operations, and representing Rochester’s interests at the county, regional, and state levels.
