The Town of Adams embraces social media as a forum to educate, increase access to Town services, encourage community engagement and community awareness. Social media provides a real tim

e method for information transmission. The Town of Adams makes every effort to adhere to social media best practices in order to most effectively meet these goals. Town of Adams Social Media Goals
The Town of Adams strives to provide quality services, programs and events to our citizens and, through the use of social media, to enhance our outreach efforts. Therefore, the Town of Adams intends to utilize various forms of social media to enhance its ability to communicate information, updates, news and events to residents, businesses, visitors and the general public. Various forms of social media will be used to provide updates and information regarding Town-sponsored events, activities, and initiatives. The Town may also use social media to feature economic and community development initiatives such as events, activities, new business openings, expansions and projects. Town of Adams social media sites will not be used to advertise or promote private business, not-for- profit organizations or other non-municipal
entities unless the town administration has a role in planning, permitting, licensing, project
implementation or activities related to the non-municipal entity. Town of Adams Social Media Guidelines
This policy exists to provide guidance and best practices, rules and regulations for the use of the Town of Adams’ social media sites (including but not limited to Facebook and Twitter). The Town of Adams’ Social Media Policy applies to the Town of Adams Official Social Media Sites. Due to the rapidly evolving world of social media, these guidelines are subject to change. Guidelines are intended to provide engagement between the Town of Adams and its citizens in order to improve communication and a basis for a consistent and reliable source of correspondence to the community. The intended purpose of establishing an official Town social media presence is to broadcast, announce and share official Town information that is useful to the public and the citizens of the Town of Adams. The Town of Adams social media sites are subject to the approval of the Town Administrator or his/her designees. All town social media sites shall be administered by the Town Administrator or his/her designee. This person(s) will be the administrator for the social media sites and will work directly with department heads. The social media sites are limited to only those departments/committees that have information deemed necessary to share with the public. Departments and the Town Administrator or her designee shall monitor social media sites for comments/requests and for comments that violate this policy. The Town’s social media sites should make clear that they are maintained by the Town of Adams and that they follow the Town’s Social Media Policy. All of the Town of Adams’ social media sites should link back to the official Town of Adams website. Access to social media sites is restricted to Town employees performing official Town business. The Town reserves the right to restrict or remove any content that is deemed in violation of this Social Media Policy. Comments and postings not relative to official Town business may be removed at the discretion of the Town of Adams. Employees representing the Town of Adams via the Town’s social media sites must conduct themselves at all times as a representative of the Town in accordance with all Town policies. This social media account is not the appropriate channel to report issues or concerns or to file a
complaint. The Town’s web site has a section specifically for reporting issues, complaints or questions titled “Contact Us”. The Town expects all conversations to follow the rules of polite discourse and asks that participants treat each other, as well as our employees, with respect. Comments may be monitored and may be subject to removal at the discretion of the Town of Adams. Certain comments will not be permitted based on inappropriate content containing, but not limited to, any of the following:

a. Profane, obscene, violent or pornographic content and/or language
c. Content that promotes discrimination on the basis of race, creed, color, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation, or national origin
d. Defamatory or personal attacks
e. Comments relative to political campaigns
g. Solicitation
h. Violations of any federal, state or local law
i. Illegal activity

The Town of Adams reserves the right to deny access to the Town of Adams social media sites for any individual who violates the Town’s Social Media Policy. Any person(s) comment(s) that violate the Town’s Social Media Policy will not only be removed but the person posting the comment will be blocked/banned from the social media site at the Town’s discretion. Any comments deemed to be a threat to any town officials, employees, citizens, local business etc. are taken in a serious manner and may be subject to review by the authorities. Official Town information approved for release should be publicized via official Town of Adams
accounts (including the official Town of Adams web site, Cable Television, CodeRED, and other
outreach mechanisms employed by the Town) and, when appropriate, through the Town’s official social media sites, not via an employee’s personal account. Employees may share a piece of content once it has originated from the official social media channel. Public Records Retention
As a general rule, Town of Adams’ social media accounts are subject to the Massachusetts Public Records Law (Chapter 7, Section 4, Clause 26). Any content maintained in a social media format that is related to Town business, or that is developed or used for approved business purposes, including a list of subscribers and posted communication, is a public record and subject to public disclosure. Comments posted to the Town’s pages will be monitored. All those who post on the Town’s social pages must adhere to the following guidelines. Posts will be removed if they violate the guidelines listed below and the person posting the comment will be blocked or banned from the social media site at the Town’s discretion. By posting on the Town of Adams’s Social Media pages, you accept and consent to the following:

• Comments and wall posts must be clean and inoffensive.
• Comments and submissions must be topically related to the particular posting being commented upon.
• No content that promotes discrimination on the basis of race, creed, color, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation, or national origin.

Due to the newly issued precautionary Boil Water Order, a Water Distribution Center will be established for residents in the following areas:

Location: Adams Visitors Center, 3 Hoosac Street, Adams
Time: Today, 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM

Residents wishing to pick up drinking water should attend during this time and be prepared to provide their address to confirm eligibility. Water distribution will be limited to ensure equitable access for all impacted residents.

Water delivery will also be provided to those impacted residents unable to come to the Visitor Center. If delivery is needed, please call 413-652-5314.

This distribution is limited to drinking water only. For other uses, residents may continue to use their own water for cooking or boiling as needed until water service is fully restored and the Boil Water Order is lifted.

Loss of Pressure/Loss of Water Service

On February 1, 2026, a water main break occurred on the Adams Fire District water system at the intersection of East Road and Meadow Street. The break caused our tank that feeds the East Road Pump Station to drain. This resulted in insufficient water to maintain safe water pressure or reliable service in our distribution system.

Areas affected are as follows:

· East Road #11- to #175

· Autumn Drive #12

· Burns Lane #1 to #19

· Fryc Lane #2 to #16

· Upper East Hoosac #80 to #127

· Country Road #5 to #30

· Dubis Street #1 to 21

· Meadow Street #49 to #63

· East Street #47 to #87

· Morningside Avenue #41 to #45

· Airport Road #30 and #50

· Walling Road # 8 to #20

Massachusetts drinking water standards require public water systems to maintain 20 pounds per square inch (psi) of pressure at each service connection to ensure safe water to our customers. These circumstances warranted advising those customers who lost service and those whose pressures dropped to below 20 psi to boil their tap water upon resumption of water service. Loss of pressure can result in backflow of water through and into the distribution system and may result in bacterial contamination. As a result, we are advising customers in the affected area to boil their water and MassDEP is requiring the issuance of this public notice as a precautionary measure.

What should I do? What Does this Mean?

· DO NOT DRINK THE WATER WITHOUT BOILING IT FIRST. Bring all water to a boil, let it boil for one minute, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth, and food preparation until further notice. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water.

· Discard all ice, beverages, uncooked foods, and formula made with tap water collected on or after Saturday, January 31, 2026.

· Food establishments must follow MA DPH procedures and the direction of their local board of health, which may be more stringent than the DPH guide.

· While no bacteria samples have confirmed the presence of bacteria. This notice is being issued as a precaution. However, pressure loss and discolored or turbid water due to breaks or changes in the distribution system may be related to the presence of disease causing organisms. These organisms include bacteria and viruses which can cause symptoms such as nausea, cramps, diarrhea, and associated headaches. They may pose a special health risk for infants, young children, some of the elderly, and people with severely compromised immune systems.

· The symptoms above are not caused only by organisms in drinking water. If you experience any of these symptoms and they persist, you may want to seek medical advice. People at increased risk should seek advice

from their health care providers about drinking this water.

What happened? What is being done?

We have issued a reverse 911 message to all of our residents/customers affected by the event and posted public notice on our page and notified all emergency response teams. We are currently working to repair the water main break. We will verify adequate pressure and will collect bacteria samples to confirm adequate water quality of the affected area of the distribution system so that MassDEP can lift this boil water requirement. We will let you know when you are no longer advised to boil water due to this incident and will provide updates as we are able.

Town of Adams – Water Main Break Response Update

The Town of Adams is providing the following update regarding the water main break impacting the northeast section of town, which includes East Road, East Hoosac, Dubis Street and surrounding areas.

Crews have identified and isolated the fractured section of pipe. At this time, the water storage tank is being brought back online, and the Town will begin slowly repressurizing the distribution system.

Residents in many impacted areas may begin to see increases in water pressure within the next couple of hours. This process must be conducted gradually to safely rebuild pressure within the system and minimize the risk of additional impacts.

Important Public Health Notice:
Residents are asked not to drink the water at this time, as water quality testing has not yet been completed. The Town is coordinating with the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to ensure the system is tested and confirmed safe.

At this time, Meadow Street, Dubis Street will remain without water as repairs in those areas continue to be assessed. These locations are expected to be impacted the longest. If no additional substantial issues are identified, water service is anticipated to be restored to these areas prior to nightfall.

The Town continues to operate under a coordinated response through the Adams Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and will provide updates as conditions change.

The Town of Adams thanks residents for their continued patience and cooperation as crews work to safely restore service.
