Please join us by attending one of the sessions offered in Adams on April 23. This is an excellent opportunity to learn how you can help be a positive resource for the children in our community.
We added another training location! In honor of Child Abuse Prevention Month and Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Hope House will be facilitating Darkness to Light's Stewards of Children training in two locations in April: Baraboo on April 16 and Adams on April 23. In this evidence-informed, award-winning training, adults learn how to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse. We will watch videos of people with lived experience and of professionals in the field, answer questions in the provided workbook, and have group discussion. Register to attend a session today: https://www.hopehousescw.org/upcoming-events.

As you may have heard, starting January 1st, 2026, Whistling Winds Animal Getaway in Oxford will be the new contracted facility for stray dog holds for the county, which includes the City of Adams.
We would like to clarify how licensing and animals at large will be handled in the City of Adams with the changes to avoid confusion for our citizens. The City of Adams Police Department will continue to respond to and attempt to locate reports of stray or loose dogs within the City of Adams. If we are able to contain the dog, we will attempt to locate the owner. If the owner can’t be located, we will hold the dog at the police department for about 1 hour, then we will be contacting Whistling Winds Animal Getaway to retrieve the dog. The dog will then be held at their facility in accordance with the contract and statutory requirements.
Concerns of stray or loose dogs within the City of Adams can be reported to the Police Department at 608-339-6839, or to the Sheriff’s Office Dispatch non-emergency number at 608-339-3304.
We can’t emphasis enough the importance of providing proper veterinary care and licensing of your dogs and cats as required by the City of Adams ordinances 7-1-1 through 7-1-4, adopting Wisconsin state law chapters 174.05 through 174.10. These ordinances and laws have been in place for a number of years. A list of the current licensed dogs and cats is made available to the officers which assist with returning the animal to their owner.
The current fees for dog licensing are $10 for spayed/neutered and $15 for non-spayed or neutered, and cats are $8 for spayed/neutered and $13 for non-spayed/neutered. A license is good for a calendar year, with a late fee of $20 per animal after March 31st.
We appreciate the services provided by the Adams County Humane Society and will continue to work with the staff there as we make this transition. We also look forward to working with Whispering Winds Animal Getaway as we move forward.
