Allen Fire Department is honored to have received the inaugural NFPA Community Risk Reduction Elevation Award at last night’s Stars at Night Awards Dinner.
This recognition is especially meaningful because it highlights a core belief of the modern fire service: our greatest successes are often the emergencies that never happen.
Community Risk Reduction (CRR) is about identifying risks before they become tragedies and bringing the right partners to the table to create safer communities.
A special thank you to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) for championing CRR and providing the guidance that helped shape programs like our DRIVE to Thrive initiative and of course, for choosing us over the numerous applications from across the country.
This award belongs to more than Allen Fire. DRIVE to Thrive was successful because of the incredible partnership between the Allen Police Department, the City of Allen City Hall Engineering Department, and Allen Independent School District. Together, we combined education, engineering, enforcement, and community engagement to address traffic safety and reduce injury crashes in our community.
We are proud to accept this award on behalf of an entire community committed to making Allen safer, together.

Today, Chief Boyd had the honor of speaking at the dedication of the Pat McAuliff Legacy Hall at the Collin College Public Safety Training Center, recognizing a man whose impact on the fire service extends far beyond the classroom.
For nearly four decades, Pat McAuliff helped shape the future of the fire service through his leadership of the Collin College Fire Academy, overseeing the training of more than 2,100 firefighters and helping build one of Texas’ premier firefighter training programs. His influence can be seen in fire stations across North Texas, including right here in Allen.
We are grateful for Chief McAuliff’s legacy of service, leadership, and commitment to developing the next generation of firefighters. Congratulations on this well-deserved honor, and thank you for the lasting impact you’ve made on our profession.

AFD recently completed live fire training at the Collin College Public Safety Training Center, putting our skills to the test under heat, smoke, and fire conditions.
After months of simulation-based training focused on apartment and multistory residential fires (see links in our profile for the ARIES program), our crews had the opportunity to apply those lessons in realistic, repeatable scenarios. We trained on critical decision-making, fire attack, search operations, and ventilation tactics in the types of buildings that are becoming increasingly common in our growing community.
Every evolution helped us learn, adapt, and improve—ensuring we’re better prepared to protect the residents of Allen when seconds matter most. Training doesn’t end when the fire goes out; every lesson learned helps make our department stronger and safer for the future.

Our future firefighters spent last week learning all about the fire service through hands-on activities and real-world experiences. From ladders, hoses, bunker gear, and ropes & knots to EMS skills and teamwork challenges, these campers jumped in with enthusiasm and gave it their all every day.
To top it off, they finished the week by completing the Fire Department Physical Ability Test (PAT)—and absolutely crushed it!
We're proud of every camper for their hard work, positive attitude, and willingness to learn. Thank you to our firefighters and staff who helped make this year's academy a success!
📅 Parents, mark your calendars now—registration for the 2027 Junior Fire Academy is expected to open in March 2027. Stay tuned for details and don't miss your chance to join the adventure next summer!
