Food insecurity doesn't always look like empty shelves.
It looks like a parent skipping dinner so their child can eat. A senior rationing groceries to make them last another week. A working family choosing between rent and a full refrigerator.
These are real people. Working jobs. Paying bills. Doing their best.
And they deserve access to nutritious food β not because it's a privilege, but because it's a basic human need.
We see them. And we're working to change the systems that make their lives harder.

We started this month with a simple idea:
Nutrition shouldn't depend on ZIP code.
We've talked about food deserts, summer hunger, transportation barriers, health outcomes, and the families navigating all of it every single day.
The work isn't done. But awareness matters. Conversation matters. And so does every person who chooses to act.
Nutrition is not a privilege. It is a basic human need.
And Georgia deserves better.
Thank you for being part of this conversation. Now let's keep going. π Link in bio.

"Just eat healthier."
It's advice that ignores reality for millions of Georgians.
You cannot choose healthy food that is unavailable. You cannot afford food that is out of reach. You cannot make a 30-minute grocery run when you have no car, unreliable transit, and two jobs.
This is not about individual choices.
It is about access.
When fast food is closer than fresh food, and processed food is cheaper than produce, the barrier isn't willpower β it's infrastructure.

Nearly 59% of Georgia public school students qualify for free or reduced-price meals.
That's not a small number. That's the majority of kids in Georgia's public schools.
And every summer, that daily meal disappears.
Summer feeding programs exist to help close that gap β bringing nutritious meals directly into communities where kids live.
But awareness is everything. If families don't know the programs exist, kids go without.
Share this. It might help someone in your community.

At Feeding Georgia, our role as the state food bank association is to support, connect, and strengthen the network of food banks serving communities across Georgia. We work alongside our partners to advocate, collaborate, and help provide resources that make a lasting impact for neighbors facing food insecurity. But beyond programs and partnerships, what truly drives us is people β building relationships, connecting with communities, and making sure every neighbor feels seen, supported, and cared for.
We are grateful for the dedication of the Atlanta Community Food Bank staff, volunteers, and supporters who continue to show up every day with compassion and purpose. The work happening here changes lives, and it reminds all of us why this mission matters so deeply.
As we celebrate accomplishments and goals reached, we also continue striving forward together with one shared vision: ensuring that no neighbor goes hungry. Thank you again for having us, for your partnership, and for the heart you bring to this work each and every day.

Imagine needing groceries but β
Your nearest store is miles away. Your car is unreliable. Bus routes don't go there. Rideshares cost more than your groceries. You work hours that make long trips impossible.
This is the daily reality for thousands of Georgians.
Transportation isn't a side issue in the fight against food insecurity. For many families, it's the biggest barrier of all.
Solving food access means solving transportation. Mobile food distribution. Community partnerships. Investment in infrastructure.
Because getting to healthy food shouldn't be this hard.

For millions of kids, school isn't just about learning.
It's where they eat.
When summer begins, those reliable daily meals disappear β and families already stretched thin suddenly face hundreds of dollars more in grocery costs each month.
Nearly 59% of Georgia public school students qualify for free or reduced-price meals.
Summer hunger is real, it's predictable, and it happens every single year.
Summer feeding programs bring meals directly into communities β but they only work when people know about them.
More on that this week. π

You cannot choose healthy food that is unavailable, unaffordable, or impossible to reach.
Across Georgia, food access barriers continue to impact families, seniors, and entire communities.
Every Georgian deserves reliable access to nutritious food β regardless of where they live.
