Ever been to Hartsfield-Jackson Airport? ✈️ You may know it as the world’s busiest airport, but did you know it’s named in part after Maynard Jackson, Atlanta’s first African American mayor?

During his time in office, Jackson helped improve the police department, expanded Atlanta’s airport, and opened new opportunities for minority-owned businesses to work with the city.

Celebrate Maynard Jackson’s legacy & learn more about his remarkable life at a screening of “Maynard” on June 19 as part of Juneteenth at Finally, Friday. Head to the link in our bio to learn more.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Our volunteers work hard, so they deserve a celebration! 🥳

Last week, we hosted a Week of Service to honor Historic Oakland Foundation’s roots as a volunteer-led organization. Veteran volunteers, first-timers, and staff joined forces for gardening and preservation projects across the grounds, from pulling roots to cleaning headstones.

We wrapped up the week with a volunteer appreciation brunch, where volunteers enjoyed a delicious buffet and mingled with fellow volunteers and staff on the Gable Foundation Lawn.

Thank you to our volunteers for everything you do! 🫶 Read the full recap of the week of service on our blog!

Meet Mary, who has been a tour guide at Oakland for 5 years! Mary, like all our volunteers, dedicates her time to sharing Oakland’s stories & keeping its history alive!

In the foundation’s 50th year, we’re showing extra gratitude to our volunteers — without them, the foundation wouldn’t exist!

Everyone show some love for Mary and all of our volunteers! 👏
