June is ! Join us in celebrating the farmers who make Georgia the leading milk-producing state in the Southeast.
With 67 dairy farms and 88,000 dairy cows, Georgia produced over 243 million gallons of milk last year. Our robust dairy industry generates nearly four billion dollars of economic impact for our state and local communities.
Next time you're enjoying a tall glass of milk, homemade peach ice cream, or cheese from your local farmer's market, take a moment to thank the Georgia dairy producers who feed our families and fuel our economy.

Last week, our team hosted a workshop in Athens focused on building co-manufacturing systems in the Southeast. It was a great opportunity to foster the growth of small businesses for our members, the community, and agribusinesses.
Industry experts shared business practices, co-manufacturing advice, and trends in the food and beverage space. Attendees made new connections through interactive sessions, all while sampling a variety of products from Georgia entrepreneurs!
We're excited to see the partnerships, innovations, and growth that emerge from the connections made during this workshop.

In light of additional New World Screwworm detections, I have expanded Georgia's animal entry requirements to include the entire state of Texas and multiple counties in New Mexico.
Anyone bringing warm-blooded animals into Georgia from affected areas must follow the updated entry requirements.

While there are no New World Screwworm cases in Georgia, we’re asking livestock and pet owners to keep a close watch on their animals.
The most important thing you can do is know the signs and report suspected cases immediately.
Watch for:
• Draining or enlarging wounds
• Maggots or egg masses in wounds
• Signs of discomfort
• Lesions in body openings (nose, ears, genitalia, umbilical area)
Early detection is critical to protecting animal health. If you suspect NWS, report it right away to the Animal Health Division at 404-656-3667 or [email protected]

New World Screwworm (NWS) is a serious pest that can impact equine, cattle, wildlife, pets, and other warm-blooded animals. While it has not been detected in Georgia, we're urging you to keep a watchful eye on pets and livestock after the detection of NWS in South Texas.
Livestock and pet owners can help by:
✔️ Checking your pets & livestock for draining or enlarging wounds and signs of discomfort.
✔️ Immediately reporting any suspicious wounds, maggots, or infestations to your veterinarian & reporting it to the GDA's Animal Health Division at 404.656.3667 | [email protected].
✔️ If you hear of or see anything you think could be NWS, the Georgia Department of Agriculture wants to know about it.
For the latest information, visit https://agr.georgia.gov/new-world-screwworm and follow Georgia Department of Agriculture / Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tyler Harper.
