It’s budget season, and upcoming budget cuts are looming on the horizon.
My colleague Council Member José Velásquez and I want to make sure that social service contracts are prioritized and that a reduction in funding is a last resort.

Enjoyed meeting the board of Jeremiah Program Austin and learning about their work supporting single moms with housing, childcare, and support to earn their college degrees. 🤝
Their apartment building and child development center in East Austin was built with one-time funding from the city’s 2014 housing bond. And more than a decade later, they’ve helped hundreds of moms and their kids improve their lives and grow into self-sufficient leaders in the community! 🌱

It’s about time Austin’s damage claims process changes. No one should feel less safe or secure after a police response, and I eagerly invite this policy change.
