Effective today, Texas SNAP users won't be able to purchase candy or many sweetened drinks with their Lone Star card. Here are some helpful tips to help you navigate the recent SNAP purchase restrictions in Texas.
As you shop under these new changes, remember that:
๐ฐ You can still buy products used for cooking and baking that may be found in the candy aisle, like sprinkles or boxed cake mixes.
๐ฅProducts containing milk or milk substitutes are still eligible regardless of sugar content.
๐ Retailers are responsible for enforcing these changes. You will not be punished for accidentally using SNAP to buy restricted items.

๐จ Starting April 1, new SNAP purchase restrictions will be in effect in Texas! ๐จ
Candy and most sweetened drinks will no longer be SNAP eligible. All candy, including nuts, fruit or raisins that have been candied, crystalized r coated with chocolate, yogurt or caramel, will be ineligible for SNAP purchases. Drinks containing more than 5 grams of added sugar or any amount of artificial sweetener will be ineligible for SNAP purchases. These changes will apply to all Texas SNAP recipients.
