RRC staff attended the South Texas County Judges and Commissioners Conference, where they met with county leaders to discuss pipeline safety, oil and gas regulation, critical infrastructure and surface mining.
Staff had the opportunity to answer questions, share resources and help local officials better understand the agency's role in serving and supporting Texas communities.

While drilling is the primary method for extracting oil and natural gas, dragline excavators play an important role in surface mining operations. This historic dragline was used to remove overburden, with a bucket capable of holding approximately 100 cubic yards of material.

Earlier today, the RRC welcomed representatives from the Texas General Land Office and the TCU Neeley School of Business to our headquarters for an in‑depth discussion on coastal orphan wells.
The meeting underscored the importance of strong coordination between state agencies and academic partners to enhance environmental protection and support long‑term energy stewardship across the state.
