Another day when Oak Mountain had to cancel our bird visit but we had a Plan B in place. Instead, we painted oyster shells to sell in our Anchor shop. Be sure to look for our shelves on Sunday for items to purchase! We talked about different kinds of birds. We enjoyed singing bird songs with Don and Lynda! 🦅 🦅

The fragrance of fresh rosemary filled our room today as we made rosemary salt for our missions store! We also celebrated Ice Cream Soda Day by enjoying Coke Floats (or Root Beer or Dr. Pepper) and playing Name That Tune with songs you might hear on an ice cream truck! Thanks to Shirley for the fresh rosemary and to Tony for his great rendition of “Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh”! It was another fun summertime celebration at Anchor! 🍨 🥤 🍦

It was a great day for ax throwing! Before the big competition, we made cute bookmarks that we will sell in our Anchor shop. We also enjoyed movement, lunch, balloon volleyball, and music with Nancy. For our ax throwing competition, we divided into teams. The Axe Me No Questions team beat Larry’s Lumberjacks by only one point. It’s harder than it looks but lots of fun!

Anchor volunteers, you know we could never celebrate you enough, but we keep trying! Volunteer appreciation event at the Birmingham Barons game yesterday. It was so much fun having so many of our fabulous Anchor volunteers attend together!

Oh happy day! To celebrate Watermelon Day we had a taste test with several different types of melons. We then voted on our favorites. It was a tie between Delicious Golden Honeydew melon and Moon and Stars Watermelon ( purchased at Sprouts if you want to have your own taste test.) We talked about foods we associate with summertime. After lunch and balloon volleyball, Connie and Cindy led us in songs about summer. Fun day!! 🍉 🍉

What a fun day for all—young and old(er!)—as we welcomed the youth group at Anchor today! We made beautiful sand art, so each person went home with a tiny succulent in a small jar of sand. With the help of our silent headphones, we saw some smooth moves on the dance floor! After lunch, we had our usual competitive game of volleyball, and with the help of our amazing YOUNG friends, we played Whac-a-Mole, Anchor-style! Don and Lynda completed our day with Songs of the 60s! Never a dull moment at Anchor!❤️
