Those words still carry weight today.
We understand that this fight is bigger than one moment, one issue, or one community. From protecting voting rights and advocating for fair representation to addressing violence, economic disparities, education access, and opportunities within underserved communities — the work continues every single day.
Silence has never moved communities forward. Action does. Advocacy does. Unity does.
As challenges continue impacting Black communities across our state and nation, we remain committed to standing in the gap, amplifying voices, creating opportunities, and fighting for equity, justice, and progress for ALL people.

As President and CEO of the Urban League of Alabama, I believe strong communities are built when people are engaged, informed, and invested in the future of the places they call home.
Creating safer neighborhoods requires more than responding to crime after it occurs. It takes community involvement, economic opportunity, education, mentorship, and residents who are committed to helping move their communities forward. When people are connected to resources, opportunities, and one another, communities become stronger and more resilient.
That same level of engagement extends to the ballot box. Voting is one of the most powerful ways individuals can have a voice in the decisions that impact their neighborhoods, schools, public safety, economic development, and quality of life. While voter registration remains important, we must continue encouraging people to stay informed, stay involved, and participate in the process.

At the Urban League of Alabama, we understand that preventing violence requires more than reacting after tragedy strikes. We continue working directly within communities to address the root causes of violence while connecting individuals and families to mentorship, support, resources, and opportunities that can help change lives.
Far too many communities are carrying the weight of violence, trauma, and grief. Our work remains focused on creating hope, stability, healing, and safer futures for the next generation through outreach, prevention, community engagement, and continued investment in the people and neighborhoods that need it most.
