Juneteenth, observed annually on June 19th, commemorates the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas were informed of their freedom.
It is recognized as the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States and is a time for reflection, education and celebration of freedom and resilience.
Today, we honor the strength, perseverance and contributions of generations of African Americans while reflecting on the enduring significance of freedom.

A love of reading starts early, and our J. Mason Davis Leadership Society is helping make that happen!
As part of their ongoing classroom reading initiative, JMDLS members recently spent time reading with children at a Success By 6 site. The visit included a special surprise thanks to a volunteer who hand-knitted pigeons for the students to take home.
