ENDOWMENT TRUST LAND MANAGEMENT

In 1890 Idaho became the forty-third state of the Union. At that time, Congress granted millions of acres of land to the new State of Idaho for the sole purpose of funding specified beneficiaries, primarily the state's public schools. The mandate was included in the Idaho Constitution, which states that the lands will be managed "in such a manner as will secure the

👩‍🚒🌲 Fire Prevention Jen here with your weekend reminder!

Before you head outdoors this weekend, take a moment to check the Fire Danger Rating signs in the area where you live, work, or plan to recreate. Many locations across North Idaho have recently moved into MODERATE fire danger as temperatures rise and vegetation continues to dry out.

What does MODERATE fire danger mean?

🔥 Wildfires can start from most accidental causes.
🔥 Fires may spread through grass, brush, and forest fuels.
🔥 Outdoor activities that create sparks or heat require extra caution.

Whether you're camping, hiking, mountain biking, riding OHVs, or enjoying a backyard campfire, remember that all unwanted human-caused fires are preventable.

✅ Check local conditions before you go.
✅ Follow any fire restrictions in effect.
✅ Make sure campfires are dead out before leaving.
✅ Secure trailer chains and avoid parking on dry grass.

A little prevention today can help keep Idaho's forests and communities safe all season long.

☀️ Morning Update

Firefighters continue to make steady progress on the Gold Run Fire. Updated mapping and field verification have refined the fire size estimate to 221 acres, and containment has increased to 22%.

🔥 Firelines around the entire perimeter continue to hold. Today, crews are focused on strengthening containment lines, extinguishing hot spots, and addressing areas of residual heat within the fire area.

🚁 This morning, an agency drone equipped with an infrared camera was flown over the fire to identify lingering heat that may not be visible from the ground. The information collected helps firefighters prioritize suppression efforts and direct resources where they are needed most.

🌡️ Weather remains a concern. Hot and dry conditions are expected to continue today, and forecasted wind gusts exceeding 30 mph on Saturday could test existing firelines. Firefighters are taking advantage of current conditions to strengthen containment lines ahead of the anticipated wind event.

🚧 The Highwater Road between Elizabeth Park and Big Creek remains closed to all traffic, including all of Country Club Road. Please respect closures and avoid the area to allow firefighters to safely conduct suppression operations.

🚶 The Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes remains open to pedestrian traffic. Visitors should remain alert for firefighting activity and follow all posted signs and instructions from fire personnel.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

🔥Every Human-Caused Wildfire Is Preventable🔥

As summer temperatures rise across Idaho and outdoor recreation ramps up, now is the time to remember that all human-caused wildfires are preventable.

Most wildfires don't start because of extreme weather—they start with a single spark from everyday activities. Whether it's an unattended campfire, a dragging tow chain, equipment use, fireworks, or a discarded cigarette, one small mistake can have devastating consequences for our forests, wildlife, communities, and firefighters.

Before you head outdoors this weekend:

✅ Check chainsaws, mowers, and equipment for sparks.
✅ Drown campfires dead out—cold to the touch.
✅ Watch for dragging chains and hot spots from vehicles.
✅ Never toss ci******es on the ground.
✅ Leave fireworks to the professionals.

Every choice matters. Every spark counts.

Together, we can protect Idaho's landscapes and help prevent unwanted human-caused wildfires.

🚨 Gold Run Fire Update – June 18, 2026 🚨

This morning, the North Idaho Type 3 Incident Management Team assumed command of the Gold Run Fire burning between Elizabeth Park and Big Creek, south of I-90 in Shoshone County.

🔥 The fire remains at an estimated 235 acres and is 20% contained.

Today, firefighters will continue securing fireline around the perimeter and working to increase containment. Crews will also be walking the fireline to verify mapping and identify any remaining areas of concern.

While fire activity was minimal yesterday, warmer temperatures today may increase activity in isolated pockets of unburned fuel within the fire perimeter. As a result, smoke and heat may become more noticeable throughout the day.

⚠️ Evacuation notices remain in effect for the Big Creek and Elizabeth Park area. Residents from Big Creek east to Johnson Street on both sides of I-90 remain in READY status. The Shoshone County Sheriff's Office is evaluating conditions and will provide updates as they become available.

👨‍🚒 Approximately 247 personnel are assigned to the incident, including hotshot crews, initial attack crews, heavy equipment, and aviation resources.

Please use extra caution when traveling in the area. Increased firefighter traffic and recreational visitors are expected ahead of this weekend's mountain bike races at Silver Mountain.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
