Happy Juneteenth! Today, we honor the enduring hope and resistance of Black Americans throughout our nation’s history.

Juneteenth marks the end of slavery in the United States, but is also a reminder that the fight for liberation continues. As we celebrate Black joy, culture, and community, we must also recommit ourselves to building an anti-racist, equal, and just future.

A constituent in Cobble Hill noticed that public litter baskets had been removed from a neighborhood corner, and reached out to our office.

We worked with DSNY to address the issue, and we’re proud to share that the baskets have been replaced.

We’re hosting a book drive for Brooklyn Book Bodega! Brooklyn Book Bodega's mission is to increase the number of 100+ book homes for kids 0-18 in NYC because reading is transformative.

You can support this work of increasing literacy and book access by donating the books that your children have outgrown. Drop off your gently used, like-new books for kids and teens at our office and help another child discover their next favorite book!

Our office (located at 197 Bond St) is available for drop-offs from 10 AM – 4 PM, Monday through Thursday.

Please note: Do not donate religious books, textbooks, activity books, encyclopedias, torn books, books with scribbles, broken books, or books that are for adults.

Thank you for helping increase book access and literacy in our local communities!

As Chair of the Committee on Disabilities and Accessibility, I opened today’s hearing on reproductive healthcare access for New Yorkers with disabilities with a simple truth: disability should never determine whether someone can access dignified, informed, and lifesaving care.

Nearly one in six New Yorkers lives with a disability—yet disabled people continue to face inaccessible facilities, gaps in provider training, higher rates of pregnancy complications, and barriers to reproductive autonomy.

At a moment when federal Medicaid cuts threaten our public health system, we must strengthen—not weaken—access to care. Reproductive justice includes disabled people. Autonomy is part of access.

Today, we heard testimony from the administration, including the Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities, NYC Health + Hospitals, and the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, alongside advocates, providers, and community members working to build a healthcare system that truly serves disabled New Yorkers.

Thank you to everyone who testified and shared their expertise.

Last Stated the Council introduced legislation to recognize June 18 as Autistic Pride Day in NYC! I was thrilled to join advocates at City Hall to celebrate autistic joy, leadership, and community.

I’m proud to stand with our autistic community, and continue working to ensure autistic New Yorkers have access to the services, support, and opportunities they deserve.
