Wife was told her front brakes were metal on metal by the dealership and needed replacing asap . I replaced them for her to save ~$400, but what do you make of this? I'm not a professional mechanic by any means but I can do basic vehicle maintainence like brakes/oil.
She had her tires swapped recently at a dealership and they did a free inspection and said the front brakes were metal on metal and not safe to drive.
These are the old pads.
Aside from the very top one, they look pretty new to me. Even the one on top doesn't seem like it's a replace ASAP metal on metal situation, but it does seem more worn than the rest.
Is the dealership being shady here, or would that one pad warrant a full brake job? It's a name brand dealership, not a small independent operation.
Also why would that one pad be so much more worn? It was on the inner side of the rotor, I didn't notice any kind of major issues with the rotor itself and it seemed in good condition. The caliper didn't show any obvious issues and moved smoothly when I pushed the pistons back in.
