Events of this magnitude require countless hours of planning, coordination, and service. Thanks to your commitment, our community was able to celebrate our culture, heritage, and pride in a safe and positive environment.

“While we honor the sacrifice of Officers Luis Huesca, Andres Vasquez Lasso, and Enrique Martinez, we should also ask why too many elected officials seem more willing to make excuses for criminal behavior than stand firmly with victims, residents, and law enforcement.

Defacing a memorial dedicated to fallen officers is not activism, protest, or social justice—it is disrespect. When leaders minimize crime, rationalize destructive behavior, or refuse to hold offenders accountable, they send the wrong message to our communities.

Chicago deserves leaders who support public safety, demand accountability, and respect those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to others. The memories of these officers should unite us in condemning criminal behavior, not dividing us with excuses for it.”

She believed that education was the key to power — and she dedicated her entire life to putting that key in the hands of Puerto Rican youth. 📚 Her name was Antonia Pantoja. 🇵🇷
Born in San Juan in 1922 and raised in poverty, Antonia Pantoja became a teacher, then moved to New York during the great migration, where she saw Puerto Rican children being failed by a system that did not understand or value them. So she built something to change it. In 1961 she founded ASPIRA, an organization dedicated to fostering education and leadership among Puerto Rican and Latino youth — encouraging them to take pride in their identity while pursuing their dreams. She was a tireless organizer and a fierce advocate, and her work touched the lives of countless young people who went on to become leaders themselves. 💛
In 1996 she became the first Puerto Rican woman to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian honor. Her legacy lives on in every Latino student she empowered to believe in themselves.
