π¨ BIG NEWS FOR THE 21ST WARD π¨
Out of more than 400 competitive applications submitted from across Chicago, the 21st Ward secured over $2 million in City of Chicago development grants to invest in our neighborhoods.
These arenβt promisesβtheyβre investments that move projects forward.
π West Pullman β 433 W. 119th Street
A $1.78 million Community Development Grant will help rehabilitate a fire-damaged building into a vibrant mixed-use development with ground-floor retail and 10 new residential units, bringing new life to a long-vacant property.
π Living Fresh Market @ Maple Park Marketplace. A $150,000 Predevelopment Grant will support Living Fresh Market as it continues exploring the opening of a new grocery store at the former Aldi location at 115th & Halsted. This funding helps move the project from vision to reality and continues our work to restore quality food access in West Pullman.
π· Workforce Development
Genesus Construction Training Center headquartered in Washington Heights on 100th Pl was awarded nearly $95,000 to expand workforce training in partnership with Empowered Joint Venture, a Chicago-based general contractor. This investment will provide hands-on training and create pathways to careers in residential, commercial, and public-sector construction.
Together, these awards represent more than $2 million invested in housing, economic development, workforce training, and food access right here in the 21st Ward.
Progress doesnβt happen by accident. It happens through partnership, persistence, and making sure our communities compete forβand winβthe resources they deserve.
Weβre not just talking about opportunity.
Weβre bringing it home.

This Juneteenth weekend, I had the opportunity to join residents across the 21st Ward and beyond as we celebrated freedom, culture, and community.
From the Juneteenth Freedom Celebration at Angel of God Resource Center, to the Kroc Center's Juneteenth event, and the Far South x Phalanx Juneteenth Festival, it was inspiring to see neighbors come together in fellowship, celebration, and unity.
These events reminded us that Juneteenth is more than a commemoration of our historyβit's a celebration of our resilience, our progress, and the strong communities we continue to build together. Thank you to every organization, volunteer, and resident who helped make this weekend so meaningful.
