Happy ! This week's wildflower is the Smooth Ox-eye!
✏️ Latin: Heliopsis helianthoides

☀️ Both parts of the Latin name stem from words about the sun. The genus name comes from the Greek words helios, meaning the sun, and the name helianthoides means “resembling sunflowers”
🐂 It is also known as False or Early Sunflower.
🏆 Some of the specific cultivated plants have gained the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.

Happy ! This week's wildflower is the Foxglove Beardtongue! These can be seen at North Pond and the Alfred Caldwell Lily Pool!
✏️ Latin: Penstemon digitalis

🧪 Unlike Purple Foxglove, which has a similar name, they are not related and are not poisonous.
🧔🏻‍♂️ The name "Beardtongue" refers to the hairy tip of the sterile stamen that is visible in the corolla.
🐲 They are in the same family as snapdragons!
