CDOT oversees the public way--streets, sidewalks, bridges, alleys and other places you walk on, drive on, or ride a bike on.

We handle design, construction, maintenance and management of streets, sidewalks, alleys, bridges, bike and pedestrian facilities, transit stations, streetlights, traffic signals, signs and pavement markings, streetscapes and sustainable design. We work to make sure the public way functions safely and efficiently.

Celebrating a safer, more connected Logan Square! 🚌🚸 🚲🚶‍♀️

Yesterday, CDOT joined Mayor Brandon Johnson, Alderman Anthony Quezada, community leaders, and residents to mark the completion of the Logan Square Redesign and Milwaukee Ave Streetscape Project.

This project transformed Milwaukee Ave between Logan Blvd and Belmont, including:

• Improving safety and accessibility for people walking, biking, taking transit, and driving

• Pedestrianizing the portion of Milwaukee Ave that once cut through Logan Square

• Creating La Placita, a new public gathering space next to the Logan Square CTA Blue Line Station

• Preserving and restoring historic features throughout the Square

Thank you to the neighbors, businesses, and community partners for your patience and support throughout construction!

Beautiful day to break ground on Elise Malary Plaza!

CDOT is transforming Catalpa Ave between Ashland and Clark into a permanent pedestrian space. The plaza is named in honor of Elise Malary, who was a transgender activist and beloved member of the Andersonville community.

This new public space will create opportunities for community gathering and local events for decades to come.
