Friday, I was proud to join Mayor Brian Hardy, residents, families, and community leaders at the 𝓙𝓾𝓷𝓮𝓽𝓮𝓮𝓷𝓽𝓱 Celebration at Fox Pointe in Lansing, Illinois.
𝓙𝓾𝓷𝓮𝓽𝓮𝓮𝓷𝓽𝓱 is a time to honor the resilience, sacrifice, and enduring contributions of African Americans while reflecting on the ongoing pursuit of freedom, justice, and opportunity for all. It was inspiring to see our community come together through fellowship, culture, and celebration.
Thank you to the Lansing Human Relations Commission, event organizers, volunteers, and everyone who helped make this meaningful celebration possible.
Together, we continue to build stronger, more united Village of Lansing and Southland communities.

This past session working with SEIU Local 73 + Illinois Federation of Teachers + Chicago Teachers Union I was working hard to pass HB 4416 to provide our dedicated para-professional the option for unemployment benefit support during the summer as an option. Illinois State AFL-CIO
Unfortunately the bill did not advance, but the fight continues. Today a dedicated para-professional stopped me to tell Governor JB Pritzker and the Reps/Senators that we need to get this done.

Today, I had a fantastic time celebrating right in our backyard at the Juneteenth House Music Festival at Rosenblum Park.
A huge thank you to Dr. Jaye Jones, President of the Rosenblum Park Advisory Council, Friends of Rosenblum Park team and the South Shore Park Neighborhood Association.
We collaborated to bring such a safe, fun, and vibrant event to our community. It is leadership and partnerships like these that keep our neighborhoods strong. Enjoy the music and the holiday weekend, everyone! 🎶☀️
