A late post: photos from last week’s Arise Faith-Labor-Action breakfast where leaders from the faith and labor communities got together to celebrate the past year’s wins and honor those who have made a difference. It’s always an inspiring event and great that it’s hosted in the 24th District!

A couple reminders about upcoming events: tomorrow (Tuesday) Congressman Chuy García’s staff will be at our office for remote office hours. And then Thursday we are co-sponsoring State Senator Celina Villanueva’s Community Job Fair.

Congratulations to the Chicago Chinatown Chamber of Commerce for organizing the 26th Annual Dragon Boat Race for Literacy! It’s a fantastic event that everyone looks forward to every year. Teams compete for their titles to benefit educational organizations and the atmosphere is just electric with excitement and energy. The weather was perfect and it was great to see everyone out in Chinatown having a wonderful time!

Such a pleasure to attend Urban Autism Solutions’ annual fundraiser: their “Carrots and Cocktails” event at the Growing Solutions Farm. I was so happy to join my colleagues State Senator Lakesia Collins and State Rep Yolanda Morris in their district supporting an organization that serves 24th District constituents as well with workforce development and pathways to independence for young adults with autism.

Always a pleasure to attend the quarterly birthday celebrations organized by Chinese American Service League for their Pine Tree Seniors group. This time we had CASL’s founder CW Chan in attendance, along with The 11th Ward, City of Chicago Alder Nicole Lee, and beautiful performances by two youth dance groups.

Governor Pritzker signed the Fiscal Year 2027 Illinois State Budget this week. The conversations families are having around their kitchen tables were at the heart of our agenda for the state and that’s reflected in a state budget that works for families’ budgets.

The budget we passed and the Governor signed is focused on affordability, and investing in the resources Washington is trying to slash.

There is not one penny of new taxes on working families in this budget. We’re closing corporate loopholes and making big tech companies and crypto bros pay their fair share, so families that are already struggling with Washington’s affordability crisis aren’t hit with new taxes or extreme cuts.

Here is one media account of the signing if you want to read more: https://capitolnewsillinois.com/news/pritzker-signs-nearly-56b-budget-with-new-business-taxes-as-he-seeks-3rd-term/
