Commissioner Boatright joined Mayor Johnson, Resident Association of Greater Englewood (R.A.G.E.) Executive Director Asiaha Butler and community leaders today as R.A.G.E. broke ground on The Re-Up at 59th and Racine. The $6.4 million project is renovating a long-vacant building to serve as R.A.G.E.'s new headquarters and will feature Black-owned retail, restaurant, office and community spaces designed to support entrepreneurship, job creation and long-term corridor revitalization. The project received a $2.5 million Neighborhood Opportunity Fund grant from DPD.

Twenty-five office-to-residential conversion projects are underway in downtown Chicago as of June 2026 — more than the last 20 years combined. Valued at $1.8 billion, the 3,900 units are repurposing approximately 4 million square feet of underutilized commercial space.

The Community Development Commission today approved up to $201.6 million in TIF support for $234.9 million in proposed public infrastructure and open space upgrades within the 31-acre Foundry Park mega-project site at Southport Avenue and Cortland Street in Lincoln Park.
Led by JDL Development and Kayne Anderson, the proposed public improvements include transportation and utility upgrades, a riverwalk and parkland. Located on the north half of the former Lincoln Yards site, the $3 billion Foundry Park project includes up to 3,737 residential units and 970,000 square feet of office, retail and hotel space. Initial construction is expected to begin this fall.

DPD announced today that residential and mixed-use redevelopment proposals are being accepted for the former 20th District Police Station site in Lincoln Square. A pre-submission webinar will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 17. Proposals to activate the site at 1940 W. Foster Ave. should include at least 15 units and could include ground-floor commercial space with minimal parking. Applications are due by Tuesday, Sept. 8. Visit Chicago.gov/RFPs to learn more.
