We all know when someone passes or becomes incapacitated, important decisions must be made and if there isn’t a plan in place, decisions will be made by someone other than you, perhaps a family member or through the court system.

Many families, including my own, know the weight of having to make quality of life, end-of-life, and final decisions on behalf of a loved one. If your loved one didn’t express their wishes when they were able to and family members disagree (about treatment, finances, final arrangements, etc.), it will cause great strain on relationships and can even tear families apart at a time when they need each other the most. So please give this some thought - for your loved one’s sake and for your own peace of mind.

✨Consider:

What would happen if you, or your spouse, or both became incapacitated? Who would make your medical decisions and take care of your finances? Do you have a Living Will/Advance Directive outlying your care plan or wishes? Or an authorized representative/Power of Attorney who can access your accounts and pay your bills?

Have you designated a guardian to care for your children in the event you are no longer able to care for them or pass before they are able to care for themselves?

Do you have a Will detailing your assets and belongings and how you’d like them distributed?

Do you have any burial preferences?
