Today is National Hydration Day, and as summer heats up in the Pikes Peak region, your AMR team wants to remind everyone: Staying hydrated saves lives. Dehydration can quickly lead to heat exhaustion, heat stroke, and unnecessary 911 calls โ especially during outdoor activities, hikes, or long days in the sun at high altitude.
* Drink water before you feel thirsty โ aim for half your body weight in ounces daily.
* Avoid caffeine and alcohol when itโs hot โ they dehydrate you faster.
* Check on elderly neighbors, kids, and pets โ theyโre more vulnerable.
* Know the signs of heat-related illness: dizziness, nausea, rapid heartbeat, or confusion. Call 911 immediately if you see them.
Our dedicated crews are out there 24/7 providing expert, compassionate care when every second counts. Whether itโs a summer adventure gone sideways or helping a loved one through a tough moment, weโre proud to serve El Paso County and keep our community strong. ๐
Stay safe and hydrated out there, Colorado Springs! Share these tips with friends and family. ๐

This Fatherโs Day weekend, we want to thank all the dads who wear the AMR uniform here in Colorado Springs and across the Pikes Peak region.
These are the fathers who kiss their own children goodbye and head out to work โ so other parents can have peace of mind knowing help is on the way when seconds count.
They climb into an ambulance and answer the call no matter the time, weather, or challenges they may face. Others take emergency calls or provide any variety of professional support required for those in the field providing critical care.
The fathers on our team balance the demands of their vital work with the joys and responsibilities of fatherhood โ helping with homework, getting their children to Little League games, providing for their families, and keeping them safe.
To every AMR paramedic, EMT, dispatcher, and support professional who is also a dad โ thank you. Thank you for your sacrifices, your long shifts, the missed moments, and the quiet strength it takes to serve this community while being the hero your children look up to.
And to every father across Colorado Springs who leads, protects, and loves his family every day โ we see you. Weโre proud to serve alongside you.
Happy Fatherโs Day from all of us at AMR Colorado Springs. โค๏ธ
Tag a dad who inspires you.

As temperatures rise and families head to pools, community splash pads, lakes, and Pikes Peak streams, American Medical Response Colorado Springs is reminding everyone: Drowning is silent and fast โ but preventable. Our paramedics and EMTs see the difference that simple precautions make every summer.
Key Water Safety Tips from Your AMR Crew:
Supervise constantly โ Designate a "water watcher" (a sober adult whose only job is watching the kids). Never leave children unattended, even for a moment. If a child is missing, check the water FIRST.
Learn to swim โ Enroll children (and adults!) in swim lessons. Formal lessons can reduce drowning risk significantly.
Secure your pools and hot tubs โ Use 4-sided fencing with self-closing, self-latching gates. Remove toys from the pool area when not in use.
Life jackets & buddies โ Always wear Coast Guard-approved life jackets for open water or weaker swimmers. Never swim alone โ use the buddy system.
Be prepared โ Know CPR, keep a phone and rescue equipment (life ring, shepherdโs crook) nearby, and avoid alcohol around water.
Sadly, it's often too late by the time we arrive at a water rescue. Many people picture a drowning victim yelling for help and waving their arms dramatically โ but thatโs rarely the case. Drowning is usually quiet and can look surprisingly normal. Someone may appear to be treading water or playing when theyโre actually in trouble.
Look for these subtle signs:
* Head low in the water, mouth at water level or tilted back
โข Arms extended to the sides, pressing down on the water (instead of waving)
โข Vertical body position with little or no leg movement
โข Glassy eyes, blank expression, or no response when called
โข Silence or gasping instead of calling out for help
Whether it's a fun day at the pool or an adventure on the river, our highly trained teams are ready 24/7 to respond with expert, compassionate care when seconds count. We're proud to serve and protect El Paso County this summer and every day.
Stay safe, Colorado Springs! Share these tips with friends and family. ๐

Thirteen years ago today the Black Forest Fire ignited and became the most destructive in Coloradoโs history at the time โ claiming two lives, destroying hundreds of homes, and forever altering the lives the Pikes Peak region's first responders and thousands of families here and beyond.
We pause today to remember those who were lost, to honor the incredible first responders who risked everything, and to hold in our hearts all who still carry the pain of this tragedy.
In the midst of chaos, AMR Colorado Springs paramedics, EMTs, and dispatchers answered the call without hesitation. As the primary 9-1-1 medical provider for El Paso County, our teams provided critical triage and humanitarian care โ treating the injured, supporting exhausted firefighters, assisting with large-scale evacuations, and helping care for displaced families in shelters. Crews went above and beyond in those first terrifying hours, embodying the very best of who we are.
To those who lost everything in this fire, and to everyone who loves them: we see you, have never forgotten and will never forget.
Thirteen years later, AMR Colorado Springs remains steadfastly committed to our community. Whether itโs a wildfire, a winter storm, a multi-vehicle crash, or any other emergency, we stand ready โ 24 hours a day, 365 days a year โ to save lives, ease suffering, and deliver compassionate care when it matters most.
We are proud to serve you, and we are grateful for the trust you place in us.
Coming soon, this Colorado Springs AMR page will provide cutting-edge information, from regional fire departments, about preventing and surviving wildfires.

AMR Dispatch was proud to participate in Safety Jam 2026, where our team had the opportunity to connect with local children and families while sharing the important role dispatchers play in emergency medical services. Throughout the event, Rebecca Ramirez, Marcus Swint, and Styles Rodriguez engaged with community members, answered questions about emergency communications, promoted public safety, and highlighted the vital partnership between dispatchers, EMTs, paramedics, and the communities we serve. We are honored to serve the Pueblo, Colorado Springs and Canon City communities, not only behind the headset, but also through events that build trust, education, and lasting relationships with the families we care for every day. Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth. We had an amazing time and canโt wait to see everyone again at Safety Jam 2027!

โ๏ธ Beat the Heat This Summer โ Your Safety Matters to AMR Colorado Springs โ๏ธ
As temperatures rise across the Front Range, AMR crews see more heat-related emergencies โ many of which are preventable.
Every summer, we respond to calls involving heat exhaustion, heat stroke, and severe sunburn because people underestimate Coloradoโs intense sun โ especially at our high elevation, where UV rays are much stronger and offer less natural protection.
The more ulnerable groups โ children, older adults, or anyone without home or workplace air conditioning โ need extra attention:
Heat stroke is a medical emergency. Signs include confusion, rapid heartbeat, nausea, dizziness, or a body temperature exceeding 103ยฐF. If you see these, call 911 immediately.
๐ก๏ธ Heat Safety Checklist for the Hottest Days:
* Stay hydrated โ Drink water often, even if youโre not thirsty.
* Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and sugary drinks.
* Stay indoors or in shade during the hottest part of the day (10amโ4pm).
* Wear sunscreen (SPF 30+), a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and light-colored, loose-fitting clothing.
* Check on loved ones โ especially elderly neighbors or family members without AC. Offer to take them to a cool public space like a library or mall.
* Never leave children, elderly adults, or pets in a parked car โ even for a few minutes.
* Take it easy โ Limit outdoor activity and rest frequently.
At high elevation, the sunโs rays hit harder, increasing risks of melanoma and other skin damage. Protect your skin every day, not just at the pool.
At AMR we take great pride in helping the people of our community healthy throughout their lives. Help by sharing this post and its information with friends, family, neighbors, and colleagues.
For heat emergencies, call 911. For more information, visit: https://www.globalmedicalresponse.com/news/gmr-offers-heat-safety-tips

Memorial Day Reflection from AMR Colorado Springs
On this solemn Memorial Day, AMR Colorado Springs pauses with deep reverence to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our nation.
In Colorado Springs โ home to a disproportionately high number of military installations, active service members, veterans, and their families โ we are profoundly aware that many among us carry the personal weight of loss. Friends, loved ones, and former comrades of the fallen walk our streets, serve in our community, and call this place home.
AMR prides itself as a veteran-friendly employer and has welcomed thousands of team members over the years who are veterans or transitioning service members into roles such as EMTs, paramedics, pilots, nurses, mechanics, and dispatchers. All of them have a close connection to others who did not survive their service to our country.
Memorial Day is not a day of celebration for us, but a somber and painful day of remembrance. It is a time when the echoes of service and sacrifice resonate most strongly through our close-knit military community. As the 9-1-1 emergency medical provider for Colorado Springs and El Paso County, AMR considers it our highest honor and privilege to serve those who have given so much.
We are fortunate beyond measure to stand alongside this great military community โ to provide compassionate, immediate care to the families and friends who mourn today, and every day for the rest of their lives. Our dedicated paramedics, EMTs, and support teams respond with professionalism and heart, offering the protection of skilled medical professionals to those who protected our freedoms.
In doing so, we strive to improve lives in the very communities built on the foundation of liberty and security that our fallen heroes secured for us all.
To every Gold Star family, veteran, service member, and neighbor carrying the quiet burden of remembrance: we see you, we honor you, and we stand ready to serve you. Your sacrifices ensure that we may all live in freedom. Today and always, we remember.
With profound respect and gratitude. -- AMR Colorado Springs, El Paso County.
