Critical fire weather conditions are happening today across portions of Western El Paso County.
Our priority is to keep customers in service, and our system is designed and maintained for high reliability — with power on more than 99.99% of the time. We do not implement widespread, preemptive power outages called Public Safety Power Shutoffs.
We are closely monitoring weather conditions and have crews ready to respond to any outages. We also implemented Enhanced Powerline Safety Settings today to protect our community. These settings make our overhead power lines more sensitive, so if something contacts a line, the equipment will shut off power instead of trying to automatically restore it. This helps prevent a persistent electrical arc, which can start a wildfire. It is a deliberate choice to put safety first, even though it may mean longer outages.
