This morning, Councilman Dave Donelson proudly presented a proclamation to celebrate Women Veterans Day. This proclamation honors the courage, resilience, and remarkable service of the women who have worn our nation’s uniform.
On this day (June 12) in 1948, the Women’s Armed Services Integration Act opened the doors for women to serve as permanent, regular members of the U.S. Armed Forces. Today, we reflected on that milestone and express our deep gratitude for all women, past and present, who have safeguarded our nation and strengthened our communities.
In Colorado Springs, we celebrate these women who have broken barriers, led with integrity, and exemplified dedication and bravery. Their stories enrich our city, and their legacy paves the way for future leaders.
To all women veterans: thank you for your service, your strength, and your sacrifice. We honor you today and every day.

We’re excited to announce a new initiative celebrating the people who make Colorado Springs stronger. Beginning in July, City Council will highlight one outstanding community member each month, someone whose service, kindness, and commitment make a real difference in our city.

Every month, a different District or At Large Councilmember will select a resident who exemplifies exceptional community service.

District 6 will kick things off this July with the first nomination from Councilmember Rainey.
🏅 What Recognition Includes
• A feature on City Council social media
• An invitation to a Regular Council Meeting for public acknowledgment
• Brief remarks from the nominating Councilmember

Residents chosen for recognition must live in Colorado Springs, reside in the nominating district (except At Large), and demonstrate meaningful, above and beyond service to our community. Selections cannot be based on political, religious, or advocacy interests. Nominations will not be considered from social media comments.

Submit your nominations here: https://forms.office.com/g/YazyNQUH2v
Reminder District 6 is our July recognition. Other district nominations coming in future months!
