URGENT!

On Monday, June 15 at 6:00 PM, the Cabarrus County Commissioners are preparing to pass a high-stakes budget "as is" while completely shutting out the School Board and ignoring a $4 million education gap.

At the exact same time, a regional grassroots group will be out in full force presenting a critical transparency resolution.

This meeting is not just a standard civic update, but a crucial moment where decisions are being made about the community, without the community.

Our main goal for Monday is mobilization: pack the chamber doors and fill the public comment sign-up sheet.

Show Up, Stand Up, Speak Out!

When: Monday, June 15 @ 6 pm

Where: Governmental Center
2nd Floor, Commissioners Meeting Room
65 Church Street S, Concord, NC, 28025

Let's Talk Property Taxes, County Revenue, and Proposed Levy Limits 06/12/2026

"You cannot talk about the affordability crisis and Cabarrus County without talking about property taxes," writes Dan Redding for Cabarrus County Commissioner in his recent Substack post titled Let's Talk Property Taxes, County Revenue, and Proposed Levy Limits.

"If you are not familiar, House Bill 1089 is a constitutional amendment requiring legislators to enact a property tax levy limit. One of the main sponsors on the bill is Cabarrus’ own Rep. Brian Echevarria, and the bill moved quickly through the General Assembly last week. Per the Carolina Journal, the ballot question will read “Constitutional amendment requiring limits on property tax increases by local governments,” and voters will decide to support or oppose it in the upcoming election."

Read more of Dan's thoughts (which we agree with 100%) here:

Let's Talk Property Taxes, County Revenue, and Proposed Levy Limits There are ways for our state legislature to do property tax reform that could help those in need, while still making sure our counties are properly funded. House Bill 1089 isn't it.

As reported by Chris Miller of The Cabarrus Compass in an article posted Monday, April 27th: "The Cabarrus County Board of Elections postponed a decision Monday on its early voting plan for the November general election, following a request from the North Carolina Auditor’s Office to delay action.

According to Chairman Jay White, the Auditor’s Office asked the board to wait at least 30 days while officials explore the possibility of adding a fifth early voting location in Midland. The five-member board is now expected to take up the issue at its June 8 meeting at 12:30 p.m."

If the County Board of Elections does not unanimously agree on an early voting plan for the upcoming midterm election, they may submit proposals for the State Board of Elections to choose for them.

Various concerns including differing opinions on Sunday voting (in favor included our very own First Vice Chair AJ Clark), budget concerns, strain on staff and GOP poll observers, and the apparent lack of a proper facility to host early voting in Midland were all voiced at Monday's meeting.

CCDP Chair Rosa Culver-Sims urged the board to set an example on compromise by coming to an agreement that represents the desires of the community.

View the current draft early voting plans from the board here: https://www.cabarruscounty.us/Government/Departments/Board-of-Elections/Early-Voting

We encourage CCDP members to attend the June 8th meeting and make their voices heard about giving every voter the opportunity to cast their ballot.
