Deftly balancing work, life, and studies, 70% of adult students in the US work while going to school. Through our partnership with Total Spark and Empower Work, Wilkinson Center is able to host Career Development events at our local Total Wireless store that impact these working students. This week, we hosted a Career Pathways Panel featuring career insight from professionals in Dental Assisting, Medical Assisting, Pharmacy Tech, and Phlebotomy, as well as information about Wilkinson Center's GED and ESL adult education programs.

It was a full house with a record 98 students coming to learn about new opportunities for their careers. Best of all, four lucky students received FIFA World Cup tickets through a competitive raffle. Thank you to Total Spark and Empower Work for making this amazing event possible!

One of the key things we are focused on at Wilkinson Center is ways to make food from our pantry more accessible to our community. That's why we are delighted to partner with Ferguson Road Initiative to provide food delivery services to residents in need at Spanish Rock Apartments. Thank you to Ferguson Road Initiative for their valuable partnership and for introducing us to new communities in need of our services!

FRI is privileged to partner with Wilkinson Center in June to provide direct food delivery to residents needing food assistance at the Spanish Rock Apartments. Your support of FRI helps us connect partners like Wilkinson Center to communities that need support. Thank you.

Wilkinson Center is proud to be graduates of United Way of Metropolitan Dallas Data Capacity Building Initiative (DCBI)! Through this program and access to the Community Vulnerability Compass, our team gained powerful new tools to better understand the needs of families across Dallas County and strengthen the impact of our work.

Already, we've used this data to enhance six grant applications, support more targeted outreach, and improve how we connect food access, adult education, and workforce development services to the communities that need them most. Thank you to United Way of Metropolitan Dallas and Parkland Center for Clinical Innovation (PCCI) for investing in stronger, data-informed solutions for North Texas families.

Our May Nutrition Class at Wilkinson Center was a huge success!

Twenty-three participants joined us for “Rethink Your Drink,” where they learned how to read nutrition labels, identify hidden sugars in beverages, and choose healthier drink options. Many were surprised to learn that a single can of Coke contains 10 teaspoons of sugar!

A special thank you to Quyen Pham from the North Texas Food Bank Nutrition Education Department for leading this engaging and informative class. Participants enjoyed watching her prepare a healthy Green Smoothie and loved tasting the delicious samples.

To top it off, everyone went home with a selection of fresh produce to continue making healthy choices at home.

Our friends from Bank of Texas stopped by this week for a fun-filled day of smiles and volunteering. Providing two groups to take over both our morning and afternoon shifts, these enthusiastic employees were naturals at helping our neighbors in need shop for food and restocking our pantry shelves with fresh supplies. At the end of the day, Bank of Texas graciously presented Wilkinson Center with a check for $5,000 to help with our general operations.

We are so grateful for partners like Bank of Texas who do all they can to show up for their community!
