SMU PD officers attended .hartzell ‘s first President’s picnic and we had a ball interacting with our wonderful campus community!

We are pleased to announce that Officer Valerie Garcia has successfully completed the Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) certification process. This program is widely recognized as one of the most rigorous and challenging specialized training programs in law enforcement. The certification process requires extensive classroom instruction, practical exercises, field evaluations, and comprehensive testing. Through her hard work, dedication, and perseverance, Officer Garcia successfully met all requirements and earned this distinguished credential.
This specialized training enhances our department’s ability to identify and investigate drug-impaired drivers, recognize signs of impairment that may otherwise go undetected, and take appropriate action to protect the public.
Officer Garcia, a 10 year veteran of the department, has acquired a highly valuable skill set that directly supports our mission of maintaining a safe and secure campus environment.
Her commitment to professional development, willingness to undertake a demanding certification process, and dedication to serving our community reflect positively on both herself and our department. Congratulations Officer Garcia!

This Memorial Day, the Southern Methodist University Police Department reflects with gratitude on the courage, selflessness, and dedication of those who gave their lives protecting the freedoms we cherish every day.

We also extend our deepest appreciation to the families who carry their legacy forward. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten.

As our campus community gathers with loved ones today, we encourage everyone to take a moment to remember the true meaning of Memorial Day.

Officer Malone did an excellent job with her presentation, ‘Maximizing Resources, Serving Survivors: How to Improve Campus Sexual Assault Response’. We relish the opportunity interact with higher education staff from all over the world on this crucial topic! See you all next year!

Last night marked a historic moment for our community as we successfully hosted our first All-University Commencement ceremony under the lights at Ford Stadium.

We could not be more proud of the professionalism, preparation, and teamwork displayed by our police department throughout this major event. The safety and security of our graduates, families, faculty, staff, and guests remained our top priority from start to finish — and thanks to the dedication of so many, the evening was a tremendous success.

We also want to extend our sincere gratitude to the many partner agencies and public safety professionals who assisted us in securing the stadium and surrounding areas. Large-scale events like this require collaboration, communication, and a shared commitment to service, and your support made all the difference.

Congratulations to the Class of 2026, including our own Lt. Morrison who earned a Master of Arts in Dispute Resolution, and thank you to everyone who helped make this memorable evening both safe and special.

During National Police Week, we pause to recognize and honor the men and women who serve with courage, dedication, and compassion each and every day.

Thank you all for what you do.

The days are long, but the years pass quickly. Through every shift, every call, and every sacrifice, your dedication does not go unnoticed.

On May 8th, was proud to partner with in presenting TX DPS Trooper Oscar Loya with a check to aid in his fight against cancer!
