Volunteer Spotlight
Meet one of our dedicated volunteer advocates, who has been volunteering with DARCC for the past three years.
Currently a PhD student in Public Affairs at UT Dallas, they teach statistics and nonprofit management while pursuing a goal of becoming a research professor in nonprofit management or arts administration. Before returning to academia, they spent 20 years working as a fundraiser and nonprofit administrator.
When they're not teaching, researching, or volunteering, they enjoy reading, writing, dancing, and giving back to their community.
Their favorite part about volunteering at DARCC is knowing they were there for someone during one of the most difficult experiences of their life. Their advice for future volunteers? You don't need to have all the answers. Sometimes the most important thing you can do is show up, listen, and care.

Join us Wednesday, June 24 at 12 PM for an important conversation on Sexual Violence Prevention Within the LGBTQ+ Community with Tiffany Marcantonio, PhD, CHES, Assistant Professor at the University of Alabama.
This session will explore how members of the LGBQ community communicate consent, including the different verbal and nonverbal cues used, and highlight the positive outcomes associated with clear, affirming consent communication.
Tiffany’s research focuses on s*xual violence prevention, including how people communicate about the s*x they do and do not want, and what influences someone’s decision to step in when they witness concerning or harmful behavior.

When reporting revealed online spaces where people were sharing tactics for s*xual violence, that reality should have been enough to hold our attention.
Instead, much of the conversation shifted toward minimizing the scale rather than confronting the harm.
Our latest blog explores what that response reveals about how we understand s*xual violence, and why acknowledging harm matters for prevention and accountability.
