⚠️WILDLIFE ALERT⚠️ | Elk Crossing at the Greenland Overpass 🦌
SPOTTED👀: The first elk have been recorded using the newly constructed Greenland Wildlife Overpass! The overpass was built through a partnership between by CDOT, Colorado Parks and Wildlife and Douglas County - Government, and is designed to improve wildlife connectivity and reduce the risk of wildlife-vehicle collisions.
These early crossings show the new structure is working! Check out as three elk make their way across the overpass.
📸 Notice the flashing lights in the video? The overpass is also monitored by wildlife research cameras that use infrared illumination to capture images and video in low light and darkness. The infrared light emitted by these cameras is typically not visible to mammals, allowing researchers to monitor wildlife activity while minimizing impacts to the animals.

Parents and caretakers do anything to keep their kids safe. This Father’s Day, dedicate a few minutes to their safety on the roads, which starts with the right car seat.
Kids are safer in their car seats, and it’s recommended to keep them in one for as long as possible. Even if your child looks big enough to move up in car seat size, they might not be.
Car seats, booster seats and seat belts are developed to protect children based on their sizes, not their ages.

Who knew asphalt testing could be so cool...😎
On this episode of What’s Up With CDOT, Dot took a deeper dive into materials testing 🛠
We have labs across that test a number of things related to our roadways – asphalt, concrete, steel and the soils around the roadway, to name a few.
When we test materials, we’re typically making sure they’re working the way they are supposed to work. The crews test material from all over the state.
Here’s some cool tests our teams run:
🔸How does the asphalt hold up when we simulate the freeze-thaw cycle? With Colorado weather, there can be multiple of those cycles in a day.
🔸How much pressure can the concrete we use withstand? (Spoiler, it’s a lot)
🔸What is the soil underneath a roadway made up of?
🔸How much force can a piece of steel rebar support? (Spoiler again, it’s a lot)
💡The data the lab teams collect are incredibly important in making sure our roads are safe. The work these teams do behind the scenes ensures that those potholes get filled or the roads resurfaced, properly.

🚧 PROJECT UPDATE 🚧 | Left turn lane closures at Hover Street/CO 119 intersection in Longmont
Starting Sunday (6/14/26), crews began work on Hover Street at CO 119/Diagonal Highway by closing the northbound CO 119 inside-left–turn lane and setting up temporary traffic signal poles.
To install temporary traffic signals, the northbound CO 119/Diagonal Highway inside left turn-lane to northbound Hover Street will be closed. This closure will go through 2027, but the other left-turn lane will still be available. Please allow additional travel time and expect delays when traveling through the intersection.
These construction activities are required to prepare for the next phase of improvements in the area. In late June, crews will place temporary pavement for future traffic alignments, requiring a full overnight closure of the Hover Street and CO 119/Diagonal Highway intersection. Additional information on this closure will be available in the next couple of weeks. Additional construction activities and impacts will continue in late summer as the project will build a bridge for southwest-bound traffic on CO 119/Diagonal Highway to go over Hover Street.
Work schedules are subject to change and can vary based on conditions.

🚧 PROJECT UPDATE 🚧 | Vasquez Boulevard Improvements project enters new phase
Starting Monday (6/15/26), work moved to Vasquez Boulevard/E. 60th Avenue/Parkway Drive intersection where crews are installing a new median and conducting paving, sidewalk, curb and gutter work.
⚠️Traffic Impacts: There will be a full closure preventing traffic from entering the 60th Avenue intersection from Parkway Drive, and pedestrians will not be able to cross Vasquez Boulevard at the intersection during this work. In addition, motorists exiting the businesses between Vasquez Boulevard and Parkway Drive will need to turn left on Parkway Drive. Motorists should use Glencoe Street and E. 64th Avenue as a detour route to connect back to Vasquez Boulevard. This work is expected to be complete in late July.
Once this phase of work is complete, the project will enter the final phase, which will include milling, paving and striping throughout the entire project zone. The final phase is expected to be complete in October, weather-dependent.
