Exciting things are growing at Florence Crittenton!

SustainEd Farms is partnering with Florence Crittenton, Denver Public Schools, The Park People and Denver Digs Trees, the Valverde Neighborhood Association, Walls Project and the University of Denver to formally launch a new school garden and food forest space at Florence Crittenton. 🥬🥦🥒🥕🫑🌶️🥦🥬🥕

The project expands access to outdoor learning, nutrition education, environmental stewardship, and fresh food production for students and families.

The Denver Office of Climate Action, Sustainability, and Resiliency is proud to be a funding partner in this effort, supporting both the garden’s development and a high school internship program that will help activate and maintain the site beyond the ribbon cutting. The internship program will connect youth to hands-on learning, leadership development, and green career pathways.

🌱 We’re grateful to all of the partners helping to create new opportunities for students, families, and the broader Denver community!

GRID Alternatives is the nation’s largest nonprofit solar installer. And over the last 13 years in Colorado, has completed ~700 solar installations while supporting thousands of people with clean energy jobs. 💪

GRID believes our clean‑energy future must be accessible and equitable, especially for communities facing the highest energy burdens, longstanding environmental injustices, or lacking job opportunities.

“Electricity is the foundation of a lot of ways we’re cutting carbon pollution. As we electrify buildings and install more solar, all of it requires electricians. That’s why a strong green workforce is so critical.” Learn more about GRID Alternatives’ transformational, local work to secure a clean energy future (and explore their training and job opportunities) at the link in bio.

Here’s an example of climate action delivering real benefits for Denver families.

Through city funding and a partnership with Denver Public Schools, every kindergartener at College View Elementary received a free bike and helmet, helping more students to get active, build confidence, and access safe and affordable transportation.

The grant also funded a new bike bus program launching next school year, creating even more opportunities for students to bike to school together.

🚲 Check out the reporting from Ethan Carlson at Denver7 to learn more about how funding is creating tangible benefits for Denver students and families via the link in the comments!

We’re showing what leadership looks like by upgrading city buildings. After completing energy audits across 70 city-owned buildings, the City and County of Denver is now investing more than $5 million in upgrades to improve energy efficiency, reduce carbon pollution, and modernize public facilities.

Projects include lighting upgrades, improvements, and building system updates at facilities across the city, from fire stations and shelters to county offices. This work helps move Denver closer to its goals, while making public buildings more efficient and cost-effective for the community.
