Police work is about more than responding to calls for service. Throughout the year, our team makes connections across the community at events around the city, and in 2025, we shared time with you at nearly 600 different events!
Last night, it was the Touch-A-Truck event at First Responders Night hosted by the Iowa Cubs!
These opportunities allow us to build relationships, share information about the DMPD, answer your questions, and simply spend time with the people we serve.
Thank you to everyone who shared the evening with us!

Our investigators can explain how a crash occurred, but sometimes the tragedy is impossible to fully understand.
Few things are more difficult to comprehend than the sudden loss of a child.
The preliminary examination of evidence gathered during the investigation of the crash that took the life of an 8-year-old boy yesterday doesn’t point to recklessness or wrongdoing, but to a devastating accident.
As first responders, we carry this loss with us, and we share our deepest condolences and support with everyone who loved this child.
